What's this bit for?

Hiya all.

This little thing is situated in the drivers footwell.
Can anyone tell me what it does.

That's the temp controller for the air conditioning.

That was the thermostat for the air con.

It's scrap now.

The third of your pictures shows the broken stub of the capillary.

This is beyond repair.

If you really want to get it up and running you should be able to locate a thermostat that will work in it from some unlikely sources.

A thermostat out of a little domestic air conditioner should do the job for you as long as the contacts are rated high enough (it'll be stamped on the side of both the original and the replacement one) and also much of the agricultural machinery with air con in it use a very similar stat.

I'd be tempted to get one from a scrapper, It does tend to get rather warm in the cabin in the Summer, Cool air from the vents either side of the tunnel are a godsend, as for the one by the binacle well that is just bliss, especialy when in 30+ degrees of French hoonage.
