After spending sunday entertaining a variety of twats & tyre kickers, i'm after some options on selling/marketing the cerb, as i really cannot be arsed dealing with them any more & am considering putting under a cover in garage for a couple of years.

Whats the score with james Agger? how does he source cars (i am waiting for him to get back to me).

Also have local garage who will sell on commision basis (not keen as have brand new engine, carefully run in & warmed up everytime, i can imagine test drivers hammering it from cold)

Any ideas welcomed.

Selling pride and joy is a nightmare with a lot of customers who sound all clued up until they turn up at your doorstep. For less hassle, I'd recommend either inviting them on a night (never on a weekend!) and or find a dealer who would give you a comfortable figure... but that would mean a drop in what goes in your pocket...

I'm having the same problem selling at the moment. Think I have priced it right to sell but nobody seems interested, even tried a few dealers but they seem to think its a colour they may have trouble selling. Have even dropped the price this week in the hope that I can at least get someone to look at the car! Dunno what to try next.... Give it away?

Small consolation I grant you but Darren I did consider yours long and hard when looking for one and would have had a serious look if I hadnt decided against another TVR. It looks absolutely gorgeous and Tbloke, yours is just stunning. I cant believe a dealer would have trouble selling such an elegant combo.

Just my tuppence.

I've got mine with Adrian Blyth at the moment.

I had the same fears as you as mine has a top end rebuild and I would hate for anyone to come along and thrash it from cold.

I would opt for a sale or return at a TVR specialist, but if you're very keen on finding the right home for your baby, then persist with the private sale option.

Best of luck.

I agree entirely with all that you chaps have said. Darren, I considered yours long and hard. The fact that you are in the CI made no difference to me, but it might to a lot of mainland Cerb hunters. Why not put it with Peninsula on a SOR basis?

It's just the same with Chimaeras. I had a chap ring me virtually every day for a week asking more and more inane questions swearing he was going to turn up at the weekend with Rob Ingleby, only to ring me the night before to tell me he wasn't coming. He had bought another car. I could have told him by Wednesday he wasn't coming, I hope he's happy with his purchase.

I have sold both my TVRs reasonably quickly on private deals. ie within 2 or 3 weeks of advdertising.
I also tried a SOR on my chimaera - that netted little interest and meant I was still paying for the car and not using it and other unsympathetic buggers were.
I found that pricing the car keenly was the best option and then not accepting offers.

I'd go the dealer route - and haggle what you may lose in P/EX off the price of the car you hope to buy.

If your'e really interested and the dealer knows it, you should be able to get a good deal off the price. Best time to go a dealer is at the end of the month when their sales target needs to be met :big laugh:

Cant believe the colour is a problem - lovely looking car !! - If i was actually ready to buy i'd be interested. I'm sure someone will want it.

I did a deal with James Agger for my original 4.2.

Naturally could have got more privately but it took all the hassle out and
we both won on the all round deal, so I would do the same again.

I've had two good experiences with SOR and one bad. The good, the dealers got a little less than they originally said but did it quickly and efficiently. The bad was a dealer which did nothing to promote the car - indeed they didn't even put it on their own website - and then closed down without telling me.

I'd still do it again as it's a very easy way to sell.
