alternator pulley- the one on the engine.

An apparently simple job of changing my alternator belt has escalated...

Once the belt was removed, I could see that the drive pulley on the engine wobbled. I have removed the alternator and mounting bracket and taken the large nut off the end of the shaft with the pulley on, but the pulley itself will not come off.

I assume it is on splines or something, can anyone confirm how it fits, and how it should be removed. I guess I could just tighten the nut and hope for the best, but I suspect that the pulley should be examined at least and probably be replaced, as I am expecting to find it a bit chewed up inside, once I can get it off.

It's just got a woodruff key locating it. I'd be careful that you don't put too much force on the shaft though as damaging the bearing (which sits in the block) will require removal of the timing chain cover and the timing chain - an engine out job

Can you get a puller on it?this would put no force on bearings,should just pull off

It'll be tight - you can only just get the bl@@dy belt on!

yeah just looked on mine i cant even get my eyes close to it
