lighter issue follow on!

Hi guys, all is pretty much sorted with the electrics but i'm not sure still what is up as to WHY the lighter blows the fuse as all wires look fine! No burning behind there etc. What could cause this? A lose earth, dodgy lighter barrel? I can't remove the barrel totaly as looks to be wired in permanently, any help would be much appreciated.

Is it a standard Cerb Cig lighter? Some aftermarket ones can actually cause a fire, so be careful. If it is a standard one and the fuse is blowing, double check all the connections.

No its not, when i bought the car it never had one which i thought was strange, i bought a cheap stty one off ebay to fill the hole and caused many crazy electrical problems! I am aware these can be the problem, the terminal off the barrel looks fine very clean. What other connections shall i check? Very hard to get in behind even with the radio out, as i'm sure you'll all appreciate ha ha. So i don't really know if it was the "stty insert" i bought off ebay or the original barrel hence not having a lighter in there when i bought it? Cheers

Try the breakers as well - Douglas Valley or Bell Hill.

You could always try to get a good quality one out of a crashed modern car from a breakers.

Surely some car has one that'll fit easily enough.

They are rubbish.

Any object inserted incorrectly can be enough to short the 2 terminals inside the lighter and the rest is errr smoke.

Well guys i put a new unit in today to try bought from halfords for £8.99 to try and the sat nav wouldn't power! The light was on though so some power must be getting there? Does that mean i should forget it as otherwise the dash would have to come out yeah?
