Suspension refurb questions
Discussion
Just started my suspension refurb and have some technical questions for those with more experience than me.
1) I plan to have the wishbones cleaned, electroplated for corrosion protection and then coated white.
There are plenty of areas where I assume metal-to-metal contact would be best, for example the bush bores and bearing mounting points etc.
Would I be best masking these areas before painting assuming the nickel or zinc will provide the required corrosion protection.
2) Would nickel, zinc or another type of plating be best?
3) Might I have adhesion problems between the plating and coating?
4) I once had a motorcycle frame stove enamelled which was an excellent finish. Any reason why I could not use that process for these components.
Sorry for all the questions but I want to try and get it right first time.

I cant help with your questions but do make sure that the inside bore of the front drag strut (the big end) IS coated. I left mine bare and had problems with this loosening the fit on the poly bushes to the extent that movement due to the free play cut the rim off the bush in a couple of months. Since having the drag struts re-coated including the inside of the bore I have had no further problem, in a couple of years.

TangueroThanks for that tip. In fact I have good news. Just discovered an engineerign shop about 3 miles away that has a blast cleaning and hot zinc spraying facility. The hot zinc offers excellent corrosion protection, does not over heat the part (unlike galvanising), and provides an excellent key for a spray primer and top coat. To add to my joy it's next day delivery. Bingo!
I'll be photographing the work if anyone wants to see it.
