indicators blowing fuses

So here it is,
The fuse for the indicators is blowing. Cant be one of the lamps itself as the hazzards work fine. Its a wierd one. I change the fuse, start the car and everything is fine. I can drive for an hour no probs with anything but if I stop, switch off, go away for 10 mins then come back and start up, the fuse blows. It is as if there is a short occuring when either switching the ignition on or off. Anyone experienced this or have any ideas or even have an electrical diagram of the indicator wiring.

I know im probably peeing in the wind here and going to have to trace it out to find the short

Could it be the stalk itself and the 'rocker' switch?

Put a bigger fuse in.....

Do check though that the fuse is the correct rating at 15A.
It wont be an easy fault to find if its a wiring fault, you will have to bite the bullet and visually check all connections and voltages/resistances in the circuit....but check the relay and flasher box in case of water ingress/moisture/general brokeness.

I had exactly this a couple of years back. Same symptoms.

Not totally sure what fixed it, but I remember playing with the wiring in the boot looking for a possible short.

After this it stopped blowing fuses and has never returned!

well a bit of investigation has brung some new developments. The fuse for the indicators is blowing when I select reverse gear. I can only think that the reverse switch and circuit is off the same circuit as the indicators. I checked the reverse lamp and its fine. Got the meter on the fuse terminal and there is a direct short to earth when reverse is selected. Wierd one. Going to get the gaitor off tomorrow and check the switch.

sorry, hadnt noticed the link. Thanks for that. Do you know where the microswitch is located for activating the reverse light. I thought it would be under the gaitor but after removing that I have found out that it is not

looking at the drawings I think im looking for connector j34, should be behind the drivers seat according to the connector diagram but I cant find any connectors. Do I have to rip the back seat apart?
