Brake pads

Anybody know what is the minimum recommended thickness of pad material for front and rear on a Cerb 4.5 98?

Mine look worn (4mm) but I'm not sure what the thickness should be...

4mm will still work but new pads are getting on for 10mm or so so they are pretty worn.

I'd consider replacing them to be fair.

Not sure there was a minimum thickness ever issued by the factory but for an MOT test the pad material must be in excess of 1.5mm.

The lower the pad thickness is the faster the material seems to wear away

If in doubt change them because a set of pads on a Cerb is far cheaper than a set of discs

Have decided to replace them all, along with my fuel lines and the engine bay near side exhaust heat shield whilst I'm in the mood...

Good call on the fuel lines Nick, don't forget the pipe from the tank to the engine bay too, Had mine checked last year and it was found to be perishing quite badly. It was routed along the transmition tunnel under the car. I believe later on cars it was routed actualy though the interior, on top of the transmition tunnel, a scarey thought! As usual I could be talking boll#x though! my memory is fading fast!

Hi Steve,

I had a mild wiff of fuel comimg from the engine bay on my way back from PPCTVR open day on Sat.

So decided to take the air boxes off and have a look around although I couldn't see anything obvious.

I have been meaning to fit some new heat shield on the near side engine bay as it really stinks down there when hot (the heat shield has almost completely disintegrated), but I just haven't had the motivation recently. However, now I've got the air box off I will do it.

Yes, I have the later fuel pipe internal to the body. Fuel pipes at the filter end look nice and new (ish)
