i am getting a clonking noise from the rear when i let of the gas is that normal

Broken upper diff mount probably, these are quite prone to giving up.

Bud do you mean the car or you,cos i would consult your Gp asap if i were you.

Yea sounds like a rear diff mount/bush but might also be a drop link, I had a clunk,clunk from the rear of the cerb and it was a snapped droplink. Easy to change and replacement for both sides was about £90.

i still have a clonking sound, i have replace the diff bushes, fitted the uprated diff mount, uprated drop links yet mine still does it, so look further than just replacing these. my next target is the anti roll bar bushes, ruling out the easy things first. although had hoped replacing the diff bushes was going to sort it, but at least they are done and needed replacing any way.

Hey I know how you feel, Ive just done front ARB bushes, all the front wishbone bushes, Top and bottom ball joints and track rod ends and still have a KNOCK from the front offside...

suspension can clonk if it needs a rebuild.coilovers need constant love.In the past i have had this it normaly happens over small bumps/drain covers etc,but not every time.I did replace all suspension related parts on last car to solve this,but in the end sent shocks back for rebuild,and job done.

Hi Spongy,

Interesting comments, I have Gaz Gold Pros with about 3k miles on them and are about 13 months old, I might swap over the fronts and see it the clonking moves to the other side.

if i jack up car and look up at diff would i see it broken i have left car at mates could i drive it home orr not wise

Its not always visible that its broke until you unbolt it and it falls apart. But thats not to say its not worth a look in case you can see something.
As for driving it home it depends on distance and how you drive it and of course exactly what the noise is!!

bud mine had done approx 3k and about the same age?Its worrying when you look at the shocks you have spent big bucks on and they have corroded in such a short time.Keep em well oiled up.A spongy tip probably crap is to wrap exposed thread on bodies with electrical tape,this keeps em shiney and if you want to alter platforms the rings should move easier.

Steve Heath ones are a good alternative.

However you can make ones out of a ball-joint and a bit of threaded bar if you're stuck (not 100% sure of the exact ball-joint).

Drop links and ARB bushes cured that on mine. It was also clonking going into and out of dips in the road too if that helps. Strangely it didn't happen on rough roads more on undulations if you know what I mean.
