Brand new battery discharged overnight??

Been having the occasional flat battery issues, so decided to buy a new one last week. I thought my problems were solved until I went to start it yesterday (had driven it the previous day) Battery was so flat that it evetually activated the alarm. What could be causing a discharge of almost 70 amps in 26 hours?
Any ideas?

Hi

First thing i would do is check and clean up all the earth points on the car. Failing that pull each fuse one by one checking the load drawn with the cars ignition off to see what is pulling the load.

Check interior light in car or boot is not staying on.

The boot switch is on the LHS, check the adjuster bolt is operating the switch correctly

As well as the earthing, could it be that your battery is not receiving a charge properly and the last drive you took was running on the battery?

I had that when I first bought my cerb and it confused me for a while, long story short, big fuse had melted (not completely, just drooped) having replaced that everything was fine after a charge.

(short story long, bought another new battery in case I had fried the old one, bought new alternator (though didn't fit it) cigarette lighter fuse had also gone which was why I got confused by random symptoms)

Where is the big fuse you are referring to?

It's on top / at the back of the engine near the coil packs, normally in a little black plastic box. Bit if a pain to get to but it is possible to do so without removing anything except the scuttle panel below the windscreen. If you follow wiring from the battery I believe one of the wires will go to the fuse and the other wire goes from the fuse to the alternator (if I'm remembering / thinking straight).

A search of 'big fuse' on this forum will probably yeild some pictures.
