Ignition key - problem fixed?

Hi there,

quick question.

My Cerb 4.2 (1997) wouldn't start lately. We found out that the cables that were connected from the back side to the lock of the silver "never-ever-touch-ignition-key" seemed to have twisted and then fallen off. There was no connection consequently and the car behaved as if key turned into "kill" position.

My mate decided to take the easy way, took out the lock and the ash tray, found the cables and just soldered the two ends together permanently thereby making the whole ignition key thingy obsolete. It's put back in place but is now a dummy only.

Since everyone keeps on saying that the igintion key is useless anyway and should never be touched I don't think this solution is a problem.

Any other opinions? Something I am forgetting here?

Well mine sometimes, will not switch off via the steering buttons, and only by killing via the sliver key will the car switch off..
Hence, if you ever have an issue like this you will not be able to leave the car....
