My 4.2 had a flat spot which having checked a few bits I found a plug lead that had been to close to the exhaust, replaced it but I had also been playing about with the throttle pots, I set them both up at 14.8% as info sheet then refitted the rod however I was getting about 2% of an imbalance on the n/s when adjusting up from the throttle stop, would this be down to wear on the rod ends alone and if so what's the best option to replace these. I tried adjusting the n/s up to match at around 19% but the adaptives are still a bit out or if I adjust the pots to drop them I seem just to be throwing the throttle balance out, lamba's look ok and it's going well on a test run, am I missing something else or any suggestions as to how I sort this out?

My method is get it stinking hot (the bar does expand) and then adjust the pots to get good adaptives. IIRC my pots are out by a few % when hot, but it runs great like this - it took me ages and litres of fuel to get it right. Its been like this for 6 or so months and no probs.

Replace the rod ends with M5 Rose joints - you need one left hand thread and one right hand thread. Takes all the slack out of the system.

I think I will try both the ends and the suggestion on temps, however having thought further last night I don't know for sure that the cable wasn't perhaps holding the butterfly's slightly open as thats the side that's out.

You really need to measure/adjust the airflow on both sides to set it up correctly. That way you can tell if one set of butterflies is more open than the other and adjust the rod to match them up. Given that the stop is on one side and the cable is on the other bank if you have any free play you are likely to get a mismatch.

At the end of the day you are aiming to have the same airflow on both banks and the throttle pots telling the ECU that the throttles are open the same amount. Then you alter the fueling (by adjusting the throttle pots signal to the ECU) to get the adaptives as low as possible.

You can pick up a synchrometer for about £30 from fleabay that will do the job perfectly.

I need to set mine up and the rose joints sound like a good idea.... which ones did you order from Ondrives? I had a look on their website and most of the rose joints were much more that £14
