Hi, sorry if I start to flood the forum with daft questions, but got my first Cerbera 4.5 yesterday. I'm just getting over the terror of my first journey home after picking it up (80 miles).
Anyway, the handbook says that "if the water temp gauge shows between 100 & 110 and remains in that position stop the car". How long does 'remains in that position' mean? I was stuck in traffic today and it went over 100 until I started to move again when it dropped back down to 90.
Is this normal??
As I say, sorry for any questions which may seem silly to the experts, but I'm just trying to avoid the 'I told you so' from my colleagues who have assured me I'll spend all my time broken down on the hard shoulder!

On mine (4.2), the temperature gauge creeps up towards the 100 mark, and then the fans kick in.

The gauges can vary slightly, so i wouldnt be too worried. However, what you need to do though, is check that the fans are coming on when the temp gets to 100 ish. If they dont, then this could be your problem, or your radiator might be clogged up with sh!t between the fins.

Picked mine up last friday and i`ve posted a few questions.
Hey, it`s what the forums all about is`nt it????
My temp gauge sits between 90-100 as a norm but has crept up to 105. The difference between my chim and the cerb is,when the cerb`s fans kick in they work! The temp drops immediately.
Don`t be too alarmed.
As i`m finding out slowly but surely,it really is just getting used to the cars very different mannerisms.

Enjoy like i know ya gonna:-))

I had similar concerns on my 4.5 Cerb but it seems quite normal to run up to 100 + in traffic the fans will take it back down and you will watch it go up and down quite happily, this just takes a bit of getting used. Keep an eye on the coolant level for a day or two just to be sure you have no leaks.
A few 'they all do that comments' will make you feel much happier!

You have to remember, the temp guage is very unreliable! But the ECU controls the fan, so if the fan aint kicking in, the ECU is probably not getting the reading properly, faulty sensor etc etc.

If the fan kicks in (as said earlier) you're fine!

You got any pics of your newly aquired baby?

Hi Gary and welcome

I would say this is normal. These gauges are not the most accurate so water temp could be 10 out.
My fans kick in at 92-95. In a jam it'll go up and down between these two figures.
If you are still worried get it linked up to the software at a dealer to check it. Or maybe someone near you will have the software!!

Braddy, this is indeed pretty normal, but if you are worried then have your cooling system flushed out and bled properly. My own Cerb was a bit iffy in heavy traffic - it never overheaded, but the gauge gave me cause for concern and I used to get steam escaping from the coolant filler cap (which it's designed to do). As I live in London, sitting in heavy traffic is a daily occurance so I had my dealer take a look at it, and it's way better now. There was some air in the system apparantly.

Mine too. In fact my (old) gauge is about 10 degrees out! As a wise man once said to me (Jamer), just get used to your own gauges as they have a life of their own. When you see movement from what you've got used to, then its probably time to ask the questions.
No such thing as a silly question..............

Would agree with that tdm.

Cheers for that - put my mind at rest a bit. I'll check all the fluid levels I can find tonight and then monitor the gauges to get an idea of where they level off in different traffic situations. Hopefully it's not a prob.

My temp gauge does just the same as yours - even the sight of a potential traffic jam causes it to leap past 100 , only to come back down again when 'making good progress'.

Nothing to worry about i dont think

Yes...have to agree with gixxer....

Ours never overheated but used to creep scarily up to 110 if stuck on the M25.

Was assured that the gauge was out and advised to buy some 'waterwetter'

Yup...no joke...that's what the stuff is called and it works a treat....keeps the temp down at least 7-10 degrees.
Can be ordered through Demon Tweeks.
