Hi Guys, hope for some advise.

Engine stalls when started from cold, so I recently began revving very slowly for half a minute to get the lady warmed up a bit. That worked to some extent, tickover then being at 900. However while traveling, specifically when approaching traffic lights (i.e. off throttle) revvs dip occasionaly with the risk of stalling the engine. Engine was then at 95-100 temp, oil pressure depending on rev between 40-60.

I picked up a thread saying that a plugged carbon canister could cause the latter by preventing the tank to vent properly, and in fact I noticed a "swoosh" at the petrol station today, when I unscrewed the fuel cap. Is that a route to follow or am I on the wrong track...

Any idea? (Be kind with me... I am new to this motor wink)

Mine did this when I decatted it.

The software (adaptives ?? ) was reset and the ECU "learned" it's new set-up and it's fine now.

Have you decatted?

Was the software reset recently and is it still "learning" ?

Thanks Ireland.

I will try and hook up the ECU to reset the adaptives then. Hope that function is an easy find in the software...

Have not done this before, and the car is not decatted. Though the car sat for some months now, if that could be of any explanation?

Is there anything I need to consider when connecting the diag? I plugged the cables together as described (Steve Heath's Serial to USB, driver installed), started diag software and engine. However it says that the ECU is not connected, and I tried both the new and old diag version... both returning the same message though.

Cheers for any suggestion.

What you need to do is go into the control panel on your computer, and in device management you need to set your serial to USB lead port to com1, re start your pc and it should work

Just back from a blast on the Autobahn, now the head is free again to get the diagnostics up and running... biggrin

Thanks for the hint regarding the port, though it is set to COM1 now with restart as suggested and it still does not connect. Can I see in the diag software somewhere which port is used?

Cheers.

How long did it take your ECU to learn then?

A few hundred miles before it settled down fully.

Probably about 300 I'd say

What was the car like in the mean time?

Need max power for a drag event on Monday so should I leave it as is for the moment, it is going like a bat out of hell at the moment, just cuts out at the lights some times and seems to be over fuelling a little?

Hi,
I spent quite a lot of time with my computer to try connecting to the ECU. And finally it came out that my cable (coming from Steve Heath too) was not wired correctly, so maybe you could check that everything is conform to the image here : http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I cut the 3 wires, connected them according to this picture, and now it works.

The diag software uses COM1, but you can change it to COM2 by pressing a button, maybe F5 or F10, I'm not sure...

Zidmie, interesting that you hunted this down to the cable finally. I give it a try with the serial connector first, before opening the cable/ connectors... just need to find an old laptop.

As for the initial post re the occasional drop of revs in idle, it feels like this has settled itself in the meantime a bit - so maybe Ireland was right that the ECU was in "learning mode" scratchchin
