I've been running around with my sports exhaust and de-cat for a couple of weeks and I think it sounds cack. It's just all noise and no burble, as can be heard here

If it had been producing flames from the back, I might be swayed to keep it, however, it doesn't, so it has to go.

Before I spend another couple of hundered on exhaust modifications, has anyone got any sounds of a de-cat with standard exhaust. If that sounds ok, then I might change to a standard backbox, if not, the cats are going back in.

I've always thought that about decatted Cerbera's, makes them sound like Caterham Vauxhalls. Sports Exhaust only is the way to go and the best noise by far

www.mercia.biz/PlanetTVR/cerbera.wma

PS, on that video the Wedge sounded best, but then the generally do, no Cats, burbling V8 and single exhaust.

Do you mean put the catts on with a sports exhaust? I'm about to put the car in it's MOT, catts back on. Just wondering if I should leave them on, I love all the pops and crack etc, but overall noise too much for the family. Will the pops and cracks disapear if I leave the catts on, and will it sound more v8ish if I leave them on? What do you guys think?

Yep, Cat's on but with Sports Exhaust. You get a more deeper bass sound. Still pops & bang when you come off the throttle, mine could also be provoked to do the same on the up change if I got the timing right

I have to agree, the sports exhaust and cats sounded great, but trouble is one of the cats is rattling really bad.

I can either buy a new cat for 250quid or a standard backbox and leave the cat(s) out.

Decisions decisions.

p.s. MOT time is ok as one of the cats is still working ok.

I have cats with HHC sports exhaust but I don't have a recording of it yet. I'll try and get one tonight and post it up (I think my mp3 player records).

Its quite bassy at tick over but goes raspy after 4k on heavy throttle. Pops and bangs on the way down from 3.5K to 3k and will crackle on an upchange between 3.5 and 4K

The pops and bangs seems to be very dependant on driving style and weather. Cold weather and normal pottering around I get the musical interlude on liftoff from 4k down to 3k. Hard driving and hot weather it's a constant barrage from 6k all the way down to 2k.

This is on a 4.2 catted sports exhaust.

What I need is a video of a Cerb with standard back box and no cats. My car has already got a sports exhaust and it's just recently that I've took the cats out, so I can still remember the sweet burble of yore.

I'm thinking of taking a trip to Powerflow to see if they can make up some small baffle sections to go in where the cats normally sleep.

If you're in the money, you can pick up a pair of high-flow cats (with tunable back pressure settings), that come with a turbine tunnel of some sort, basically if the rest of the system is sports free flow, the sound that exits the rear, will be with all the pops and bangs and at the same time, a jet like hum!!! I havent heard of someone fitting these on a cerb yet, but I've heard them on a few hot-rods, and they sound awesome!

Get a set of these and drag yourself down to Austec or the likes with a rolling road, and get the whole thing tuned and set up with an ECU reprogramme to match too!

My cerbs fitted with a sports exhuast and I've recently had the de-cat pipes fitted........

I now fear for my license when sitting still with the engine running its SO loud.

It pops and bangs on the over run from 4 K right down to 2.5k it will pop and bang on the upchange to (if you get it right). And it develops a lurverly metallic rasp between 3 and 3.5k that turns into a deep and loud roar the higher up the rev range. Must try and get a recording of it.

My car was called Fluffy but I might change that to panadol, after the tablets I needed to take to clear my headache after being out in it all day.

Could anybody else hear the sound of crickets and tumbleweed as the Elises went past?

back at work today and loving every minute of it

I've stolen your idea James, I've bought a laptop and have a 7" touch screen being delivered, so in car entertainment will come to a Cerb after all...

Will it be able to control the sound from your exhaust, or have you gone off at a tangent?

*buzz* deviation...

Hmmm... electronically adjustable baffles? Could be done I suppose!

Bit of a tangent though I'm afraid, more GPS, MP3, ECU related... sorry... I'll get my coat...
