599 Brake Noise
Discussion
My 599gtb has developed a really annoying/worrying brake noise, at whatever speed I brake I get a loud clicking noise as if the disc is cracked so I have sent it into my main dealer. They have looked at it and reported that "this is something that does happen and Ferrari state there is loads of life left in the disc, but the noise is caused by slight movement on the disc mounting due to slight wear, but it is totally safe". Now I have told them im not prepared to drive round in it sounding like a tank! Fair play to my dealer they are going to ask Ferrari to replace the disc's under warranty but he didn't seem to hopeful which I find strange seeing as its only covered 6k!! My question is has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the outcome? Thanks in advance....
Not to my knowledge!!! He explained it that now there is slight wear to the disc there is a small amount of movement causing the noise??? To be honest I can't see that as that would mean there is wear at the point its bolted to the hub/suspension?? Hence why I'm asking if anyone else has had this "problem".
Dave ?, only reason I ask is that back in the biker days with my Ducatis they had cast iron floating discs that used to rattle about like a good un, was all part of the character .....
Roll the clock forward a few years and one of the mods on a gt3 is to replace the discs with either brembo or alcon discs, they are cheaper than porsche oem discs last a lot longer and dont crack etc etc, part of the reason they are cheaper as well is that when they are worn you can just replace the rotor ie the shiny bit the caliper grips and not the whole hub and disc, one of the downsides is that they rattle as well ...... character.
Im not a ferrari expert (yet) but dont they use brembos ? someone here will know if you can just replace the rotors on these cars if yes could be the answer.

I had this same issue on my 599 GTB.
First time round a new set of front pads fixed it for about a month or so.
Second time round Ferrari replaced all four discs and pads under warantee (however they also found a retaining pin had sheared which was not connected to the clicking noise, which was probably the reason for replacing all four discs and pads without any input from me)
Either way I did continue to use the car on both occasions, including a track day and had no issue with the brakes or their effectiveness, just the damn clicking noise driving me crazy!

I had exactly this issue on my 08 car with 13k miles (just bought it). Sent it back to the dealer as it was a joke with such a noise. They tried to say it was common on carboceramic brakes, until I pointed out that I never had an issue on other F cars. Eventually, after following Ferrari service intervention guidelines, they send the brakes back to Brembo. Now returned, the dealer says the issue is solves. I have not yet tested it, but the fact there is a service action, and eventually a need to send to Brembo means it is a known problem. Now what Brembo have done I do not know ? Not really sure of the production process of such brakes, but it seems like an uneven wear issue, but I will try and ask a brembo engineer so he can explain better.
In the end to fix the problem on mine they have swapped the disc's from one side to the other. This has cured the problem I have been giving the car some big stops and it hasn't re-surfaced!!! One thing I have made Ferrari UK agree too is that if it happens again they will replace the disc's straight away!!!
Montpellier what do you think to the car? I bought mine new with a view of keeping it 6months that was nearly three years ago now I really do love it, think I won't change it till the replacement come's out.

Am delighted with 599, such a great GT car. I have a 458 that I pick up next wek, but in reality I love the v12 drive. Had a 575 in past. There is something addictive about a big lump up front.Montpellier what do you think to the car?
