Hi folks,

I am seriously considering getting myself into a Granturismo 4.7 MC Shift, but am wondering how much the repair bills and break down cover is going to cost me!?

(After previously being scarred by a love hate relationship with a TVR in the past, and am a little more cautious of who gets to sleep in my garage these days!)

Any thoughts on their general reliability or common faults to look out for would be appreciated. Also, if you have toddlers, are they roomy enough in the back for a couple of little ones?

Many thanks!

Joel.

Pork has sent you the most useful links but in short, they are well made reliable cars. Have had mine for 2 1/2 years without any major issues and plenty of smiles. Easily big enough to take adults in the back, kids have more space than they need. Completely different experience to a TVR. Only caveat is if buying second hand make sure it has been used and properly maintained. Is also worth getting an inspection done or full warranty from a Maser dealer.

I have mad e exactly that step, and have almost no regret! sold my Sagaris and can honestly say the Maser has been a dream! Its never missed a beat, and makes IMHO a better noise which i never thought I'd say after selling the Sag. A great car to drive, and equally as practical, for four adults or a few children in the back, and by annual service. Now...excuse the sales the pitch but... long story short, I'm moving, I won't have parking and the car has to go. If you are interested, there could be a deal to be done. its an 09 GTS, MC Shift, in black 12500miles. email me if you want more details so I dont block this up. But regardless of which one you get, get one, you'll love it!

I had the 4.2 for 9 weeks and then the 4.7MC Shift for 21 months. Really great all rounders.
Just swapped my one for a Gallardo and do miss it's practicality, easiness to drive and comfort, but above all I miss the sound!

Thanks for the advice! Loads of positive comments across all of the threads (which is obviously re-assuring to hear).

Appreciate all the input.

Will send over a few pics when I get round to doing the change over!

maybe ask about the cost of replacing the automated manual clutch. When i had mine the dealer said they normally last about 12000 miles. I never had it up to this mileage so don't know what happens after that but even after about 6000 miles mine was starting to judder a bit in 2nd gear and i hardly ever drove it in auto mode(because you can't get the full sports exhaust sound in auto!)

To restart this thread but not MC shift version; I'm looking to purchase a Granturismo 4.2 with a budget of £35k. Looking around I will struggle to get one warranted from a dealer. Private sales can be found just below this but risky without a warranty.
Would I be better stretching my budget and getting an early 4.7?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I suggest that you have a word with Nareman at Nuvola in London. I have bought and sold two Maseratis through his company. His cars come with a good warranty. He gives excellent and impartial advice & he doesn't mind if you do or don't buy from him. He is very happy to help out. He would be my first port of call and I would trust his recommendation.

Also, check out the Sportsmaserati forum. A great bunch of guys with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
