Had my 97 355 for a year now, Rosso / Cream, manual,Capristo, new rads etc etc and now almost perfect so must be time to change no ?

Not sure what to do, I want something with the F1 box I think although not driven one as yet, thinking maybe 360 spider the logical next step up, but looked at a lovely 575 that I really like.

Torn between keeping the 355 now shes done as it were and changing for something different, 355 I think can only go up and 360 and 575 probably down a touch depending on purchase price.

The 575 seems to be the elder persons choice and the 360 the medalion man option.

Has anyone driven both cars to compare ?

Am I having a madness attack ?

I'm not sure I'd bother with a regular 360. I'm looking at changing my 355 out in feb (will prob sell in nov then sort something in the new year) and the current front runners are 550, gallardo spyder and a CS. The latter is what I'm erring in the direction of. I'm sure I'd enjoy any of them, but CS residuals might swing it smile

I have had my 355 spider for 4 or 5 years and think I want to change it every year ......

I still have it longest I have ever owned a car

Phib

Actually I have decided to add to it rather than replace it !

From a value POV it's possibly a good time to sell a 355; prices seem to be spiking but who knows if the rise will be sustained...

As for the 360, I wouldn't swap a 355 for a 360.

A 575 is an interesting proposition. I like them; a lot. But I wouldn't try to guess whether they'll appreciate or depreciate over time; 599s are falling below £100k now and I'm not sure I can see a 575 ever appreciating to more than a 599 costs?

I think if I was swapping a 355 I'd want to go to a 430 Scud... but as those appear to be a bit out of your range I'd probably stick with the 355.

If you're set on changing, how about something like a 512BB?

And this is pretty much the reason I se my self adding an granturismo mc shift rather than swapping the 355 out, having said that good 355's are hard to find and I stil think that they will rise a la 246

I may be wrong !!

What would you really swap it for?

Everything newer is going to be faster, no doubt. But will you find it any more rewarding as an ownership experience? I doubt it. A 430 or 458 will be miles quicker but probably feel just like a fast, mass-produced car. The 355, for all its foibles, has bags of charm. Its fast enough to have fun but no so fast its unusable, the handling is hugely flattering and the noise is pretty much unbeatable.

360CS? Brilliant car. I'd have one if it had a manual box, but there's no way I'd be without that gated shifter. Its slower, but that's not really the point.

550/575? Again, epic cars, but most definitely GT's. Having driven them, they never really hit their stride until north of the motorway speed limit IMHO. Around town you always feel constricted and they're also not cars which are really suited to be hustled down a B-road.

I think a modern Maser is a great idea to complement the 355. Another cracking engine note and very pretty car.

But I've thought long and hard and there's nothing I'd swap the 355 for.

Although I may complement it with some late 70's air cooled Pork...

Some interesting comments guys.

If it were a money no object purchase then for me it would be a CS as I think it would be pretty much like my old GT3 but madder, or maybe a scud.

You boys know how it is you scan the classifieds and start to get unpure thoughts as to what to get next, your right I doubt I could get a 575 to sound as good as my 355 does with the capristo and the girlfriend says a 575 looks like a normal big car not something flashy and sporty, but there is something about that V12, the paddle shift, the launch control, and the curve around interior that shouts out to me.

Unlikely to do any track days or long euro trips but still I think I fancy one.

The white 360 in the classifieds looks nice, as does the baby blue one, also like the idea of one of the CS copies out there currently.

I know a 575 is not the type of car for a mad sunday morning blast or is it ?

You sound as if you like to push on but not go at warp speed so why not go older and look at a 3x8? They are probably only going up in value, have bags of soul (I drive my C4s daily and have zero emotion yet drive my 328 and even doing 4 miles in traffic my pulse in noticeably faster such is the thrill) and charm and will make your 355 feel quicker. Also, servicing is a lot less expensive I should imagine. I just had an annual with cambelt change and a few other bits and it was £1.5k

Or how about adding a Testarossa for a V12 but I am 40 so that and the Countach were my pinups!

Or wait a few years and get a California when they get to 430 money with so many being produced. For me that is the perfect modern Ferrari. What is lacks in pure sportiness it makes up for in so many other aspects.

Never had a 355 so can't really comment on that but I've had a manual 360 which was a really nice car then a 430 which again was a real step up from the 360 and this time with F1 , I now have 360CS.
I'm sure the CS is only similar to the 430 in real term of performance but it's the look of the car and the noise, oh the noise.
If you can afford a CS I'd say go for it, my only route from the CS will be either a Scud or 458 not back to a standard 360 or 430.
With regard to the F1 gearbox being slower than the manual I'd be very surprised if this is right as the manual is quite a long throw. In race setting the CS gear box snaps in very sharply.
Each to their own tho.

Whats the differance in running costs between the two??, all the buyers guides i have seen say the 550/575 are very very reliable and not all that expensive to run relatively speaking, which i have a hard time believing truth be told.
It is a v12 after all and when i looked into maybe getting a 456 the running costs seemed pretty big is the 550 really so differant? they seem well regarded the 550's stuff like it's one of the all time great front engined ferrari's, seem to get bandied about quite a bit

I sold my F355 a couple of years ago. I don't really prefer any other modern Ferrari. A 360 CS would be lovely though, but not my style.

Now I am over 30, I am thinking of a Mercedes Pagoda 280sl in silver with red leather interior.

If I had the available cash, I would be all over an F40.
