Any tyre load rating experts?
Discussion
Morning all,
This was touched on briefly last week, but I am after some Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my F355 but fronts in the correct load rating only seem to be available in the US as far as I can see.
I can get 88Y load rating fronts but 92Y is recommended for the car. Is the front of the F355 really heavy enough to require the higher rating - it must be recommended for a reason? Any opinions on using 88Y tyres instead?
Cheers,
Bryn.

hi there
88Y = 560 KGS
92Y = 630 KGS
70kgs per tyre is not insignificant
will it make a difference in real terms ?
i guess insurance would be the big question in event of an issue arising
If those ratings are per tyre then surely the 88Y is fine for the F355 unless you intend to do "stoppies" in it?88Y = 560 KGS

I have a mk2 seat Leon which currently has 225/40/18 88Y but as above 92y is recommended
Man maths:- I think my car is booked at 1375kg round that up to 1500kg plus 25%= 1875kg divided by the 4 axles that's a load of 468.75kg
So in my little world 88Y being 560kgs should be more than sufficient or have I missed something?
My reason for asking is Iv seen yoko advan neova ado8r tyres for £106 where as the same tyre 92y is £188,that's quite a difference
Edited:- justnrealised this is in the super car section,still tyres are tyres

In November my car failed the keuring (Belgian MOT) because the load rating was too low (also 88 where 92 is required). This was particularly annoying as I'd just had 4 new tyres fitted - replacing the tyres like for like. I have a mk2 seat Leon which currently has 225/40/18 88Y but as above 92y is recommended

When I questioned it (as the car has passed in previous years without any problem) they said that there were a few extra checks which they were now required to carry out which were previously not done, of which tyre rating was one.
May be worth bearing in mind if this is now also a UK (or europe-wide) requirement.
