Ford GT - talk me out of it
Discussion
Ok so I haven't necessarily always wanted one, but I love the idea of it. I love the doors, I love the clams that open up the car, I love the lairy stripes, and of course the huge growling engine. I first came across one at Donington where I was passenger in an NSX and this brand new black Ford GT that was still being run in just stormed away from us, on the corners and the straights!
Things that I'm worried about:
The size of the thing - will I need a custom garage or something? Do the doors really restrict parking options? I'd hate to be stuck in a multi-storey waiting around for the car next to me to leave so I can open my door!
The price - they haven't really moved over the past few years, though they seem quite sensitive to mileage
Petrol - will it bankrupt me?
Servicing - now I've heard that this actually isn't too bad, and I assume the car itself is fairly easy to work on as it's effectively a refined muscle car, is this true?
Reliability - I'm not really the TVR 'oh well I'm stranded by the roadside again c'est la vie' type. Other than electrical gremlins that Clarkson talked about, is it going to always get me home?
Hoping a few owners and knowledgable folk will chime in here, I like them because they're a bit of an obscure supercar but with this brings limited information out there on the net!
Thanks!

Parking issue would worry me. I imagine you are not be able to get in or out unless you can open the doors fully - ask yourself how often have you found yourself having to squeeze into / out of a part-open door? If the answer is "never", go ahead.
I think it's actually rare to be able to open your door fully! I'm out in Australia at the moment and their parking spaces are much bigger (along with their garages!). I'm surprised each time I open the door fully!Seany88 said:

I know two people that have one. One of the chaps is a very good mate of mine, has owned his from new and it's never caused him any issues what so ever. Things that I'm worried about:

Given the car that it is, it's `relatively` cheep to run. Revolve in the UK are the only Ford approved service agent for them now : http://www.revolve.co.uk/Performance-Engineering
All the stories you've heard about Clarkson's car was, as has been previously mentioned, more him than the car. I know the chap really quite well that owns that car now and again, it's been faultless for him.
Size wise, they are a little on the wide side and you are right to be concerned about the doors. Although lets be honest, your not going to be leaving it in the nearest Morrisons multistory carpark are you.
On the road i found that it actually shrinked around you quite a bit as a driver but when turning left out of a junction there was quite a large blind spot from the RHS. Price wise, they are bordering on appreciating assets now.
I have owned a few in the past and started looking into buying another.
My garage is 9ft wide and it was tight but not really a problem. You can open the doors just a little way and squeeze out towards teh back of the car.
They are relativly cheap for parts and servicing as mentioned above.
Not many options to choose from when new so buying is fairly easy. Colour, stripes, wheels, stereo system etc.
UK cars have a plug in charger near the bonnet which is useful.
JC problems were with the cobra alarm rather than the car itself.
I was out in one last month and it does now feel a little old, but not classic. That was from teh inside. Visually they are pretty special.

Don't buy one if you're even considering parking it somewhere near shops. Firstly you can't even get your sandwiches in the luggage compartment and secondly the doors are a pain so unless you park across 2 bays with 2 tickets don't even think about getting out and the car itself is way wide.
The car however is an awesome machine but you have to launch the std exhaust and chuck the rear bumper in the skip, fit KW 3 way and lower the car.....Job done
Drives easy, low maintenance, good on fuel, comfortable, and you'll actually find that prices have risen and there are far fewer on the market now.

Carrs of Exeter had a Roush 600 GT in black, looked fantastic as the car above, if you have 5mins to kill there is a good video off this link:

Agree with all what VPR says:
Add:
I have a Tubi on mine and at full chat it sounds quite amazing especially through the Rouen tunnel. The bumper delete is essential, there are a few options on styling, see the GT forum link below for threads on this.
Get a supercharger pulley upgrade, decent amount of added power for relatively little ££.
I've had mine since Jun 2005 and it has never missed a beat, its comfortable too.
Beautifully balanced, very fast, brakes are good but there are no electronic gizmo's and with that amount of power you have to tread carefully esp. in the wet.
Small downsides:
LHD drive "can" be a pain especially at oblique junctions as all you see is a mass of clamshell so you need to look very early.
It is a bit wide but no more than a Diablo.
Luggage space is non existent, need support vehicle if going on long trips.
Oh and you'll never want to park a GT in a multi storey.
I've asked myself many time "What else can you get for the £££ ?"...always draw a blank....

P.S One day Swerni, One day.....;)

Had one for a number of years. Smaller pulley, custom tune, accufab throttle bodies and a remap, all topped off with a tubi.
Absolutely bonkers car that will get you if you don't treat with respect.
Easy to drive, only problems were massive blind spot but put rear camera on ( got from states that was camera incorporated in number plate surround). Also, was trick merging onto roads as limited right side vision (passenger sorted that ).
Have extensive knowledge of them, PM me if you want more info.
Common fault is they cut out at tickover due to evap system - silly fuel filler system that can leak gasses and causes engine to stall.
Fantastic cars though and thoroughly regret selling mine. Have a few spares as well that I have kept..........
