Hi everyone

Just wondered what people's views were on where the value of a RHD Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 Litre Coupe might go over the next 5, 10 and 20 years (I know, its all speculation but what the hell).

I ask as I have a few cars now, I (am about to) have 4 spare garage bays and have some spare cash. I buy with my heart usually but for the next few cars it's time to include some thought about future values.

So, what do you think about the Porsche and what else might be worth considering? For example, have I missed the boat on 355s and Sagaris?

The Pork in question is this one... http://www.hexagonclassics.com/car_sales/Porsche-9...

Im open to a combination of super cars and some more main stream stuff, Mk1 Golf Gti for example.

Its POA but the question isnt what will it be worth but will it go up, down, up a little or up a lot? Are we heading for a bubble burst?

Cheers

Rich

A 964 RS 3.8 is so outstandingly rare it is very hard to price. The regular 3.6 RSs are going for, say, 150 in good nick. My money would be on them asking well over 200 for this, maybe more like 300. I'd be interested to know.

Who knows where value will go. The 964 and 993 RSs have risen a large amount in the last 2 years, maybe 100% over that period. That's a lot of appreciation already done. They will always be rare and desirable, but pricing will top out somewhere. I'm not sure I'd be a buyer of a 3.8 right now. You're close to Carrera gt money which might be my bet.

With the other cars such as a 355 it's a whole different supply/demand game. There are thousands of them rather than a single handful. Values might be solid, but any modest appreciation will be absorbed in running/maintenance costs; I don't see cars like that as an investment. In fact, my personal view is that cars rarely are investments. They have a negative yield and you're taking a bet on the global economy and fashion to some extent.

Buy them to love them is my view and if you come out on top financially then it's a bonus. I speak as a guy who's had a 964 RS (in for 30k out for 35k) and a 993 RS (in for 45k, out for 75k). I probably spent most of that appreciation running them with lots of tlc. I did also prang the 993 which didn't help!

Oh I do, I do (buy them to love them I mean). Very much so.

I guess I want it and you lot are going to tell me it's a good investment so I can show my wife the thread. ;-)

Err, 200k, I would be interested, even 250k. Just rang them, 650k.

Bit rich for me! Just assumed 200-250. Oops.

wow, that is a lot more than I would have thought. Maybe try to find a LHD one, should (probably) be a lot more affordable

I suppose for one of only two RHD cars then £650k might be okay. Tragedy is that at that price it will probably not be driven again.

There was a "standard" RS of similar mileage that sold for £250k roughly at auction a month or so ago....£650k for that is mental. £350k to £400k maybe ?!

I did notice that there are a couple of 993 RS's coming up at auction here http://www.classicdriver.com/en/auction/artcurial-...

I love this car

http://www.jzmporsche.com/porsche-for-sale/911/964...

No idea what the right price is but in the current context of mint 964 RS's going for over £200k I don't think that's too bad! It was up for £200k originally.

Tbh the fact I even asked, except for the price which seems ridiculous to me, says it all. I usually know exactly what I want.

I'll stick to my usual habits I think. If they're asking that for that 911 then it is getting silly and there is a bubble burst coming.

Suns out, I think it's time to take something italian up to the Lake District instead of interwebbing!

Maybe it's just me and maybe they're like that from the factory - but the panel gaps and alignment on the 964 are all over the place between wings / bonnet and the rear lights / wings.

I popped over to the St John's Wood "Pageant" earlier....which is basically about 40 classic/super cars parke din the High St with a funfair for the kids.

Hexagon's RS 3.8 was there with a couple of there other cars. I know it looks like it's got an aggressive stance in the pictures but blimey it looks unbelievably low/aggressive in the metal. It's just totally "le wrong prix" at £650k. I'd rather have a 2.7 RS, Daytona, Muira, F40 or 50 (if they aren't already more), C Type or a 964 RS and a 993 RS and possibly a RS 4.0 for the same money
