Drive a Gallardo- London to Spain?
Discussion
Had the car a week now and all is well - sometimes the egear doesnt work (pull paddle and nothing happens) solution - just press auto and the gearbox sorts itself out - then back to the paddles.
I have unplugged the exhaust - so loud all the time (below 3000rpms) and happy with it so i may not bother with the exhaust upgrade. - I have a 4 night stag do in marbella at the end of the month and am seriously thinking of driving the gallardo down there and staying maybe 7-10 days. Any members done a 1500 mile journey without a glitch in a lambo / similar car? Mine is an 06 so not the newest but has only done 16000 in total and it really does look/feel like new due to the previous owners looking after it. Its just come from a service with no faults from a lambo dealer and these really dont seem that fragile. Will be stopping maybe half way and starting out in the evening (night driving to avoid traffic). I welcome all thoughts and any tips from anyone who has already completed such a journey - Im sure there are many do's and dont's etc....
also regarding the (sport mode) i have read various things regarding this - using it - will it increase clutch life or decrease clutch life??? - I already use reverse as little as possible and engage neutral as much as possible also..

I've taken various Ferrari's and Lamborghini's down to my villa in Lagos.
Overnight to Santander then a blast down to the coast.
Instead of asking should you do it, I think you'd be mad not to...
Did you do it in one go that's 650 miles?Overnight to Santander then a blast down to the coast.

Consider taking the overnight ferry to Santander or Bilbao. It's not a bad trip and will leave you fresh for the last leg to the south coast.
This ^^^^^^^^The ferries are pretty good as long as its not a rough crossing but you should get a good crossing this time of year
Plus you'll miss out the french bit, which imo is a tad dull, (but i do only stick to the motorways as always in the lorry.)Spain is still my favorite place for driving in, even though the police are a bit keener these days than they used to be, and no longer up for haggling over the fine.
We normally travel at night, so if you spot 2 dimly lit, non flashing lights in the distance either front or rear, then its probably 99% certain they are the police, (Guardia Civil)
Currently doing just that, stopped in Salamanca at the moment. Took the ferry to Bilbao.
Presume your egear problem is at traffic lights or similar, are you disengaging it when waiting along time? The system drops out of gear if you spend too long stationary and doesn't seem to like going back in for a few seconds immediately afterwards.

make sure that you do the marbella-ronda road a few times
I drove my Gallardo Suprerleggera from Aberdeen to Italy & Back. Bloody brilliant and would happily do it again. I was actually thinking of taking one of my cars down to Marbella next month to as but shall see how I get on. I would agree about getting the Ferry to Santander/Bilbao. It'll work out about the same price as driving through France (by the time you pay road tolls/hotels/fuel etc) and as already said will mean you're all fresh for the drive down to the south. I would get the gearbox looked at though. You wouldn't want to break down on the way!
P.s Marbella to Ronda road is good!
If anyone is thinking of taking the ferry to Spain, keep an eye on Britanny Ferries info page.
The Pont Aven is having some engine issues, which means that tomorrow it is in Plymouth instead of Portsmouth, like it was a couple of weeks ago.
Tomorrow there'll be 120 lost foreign lorry drivers arriving in town as 20,000 folk turn up for a free concert on Plymouth Hoe and everyone else tries to leave to go home.

I drove from Barcelona to Prague in one go without stopping for anything other than petrol. That was 1700km. I had no issues at all. If you're going to end up on motorways mostly I think you'll end up using automatic anyway?
I do think it would be extremely foolish to go such a long trip across Europe already knowing you have a gearbox issue. Get that sorted before you go!!

Salamanca is where my girlfriend is from. Lovely place. We are going over next week for a short stay to see her family. Have you found the spaceman on the catherdral wall? And the frog on the archway?Presume your egear problem is at traffic lights or similar, are you disengaging it when waiting along time?
