Hi all,

I'm back in the market for a GranTurismo (second one!) and considering looking at some cars from Nuvola. Has anyone had any recent experience? All the threads I've found are a few years old now.

Also, my last car was an MC shift, and I'm a bit unclear on some details with the automatics. Firstly, did they all come with paddles or was that an option? Am I right in saying they are slightly longer geared (I found the MC shift a little droney on long trips)? And lastly do they all have the sports exhaust button, or was this only introduced with the ~2013 facelift?

Thanks in advance

I have been speaking with Nareman at Nuvola this week about selling mine. He knows his stuff and is well placed in the market.

Mine is a 4.7 S Auto 09/59 and AIUI, they all come with paddles. The gearbox working in the S (4.7) seems a bit more responsive than in the 4.2

I don't know if the top gear is longer, but it certainly isn't droney on long trips - it is made for eating up miles at highish cruising speeds imo

I think all the S (4.7) cars have the sports exhaust button - mine does. And it should be pressed regularly!

Yep re paddles as has been said and the auto is longer geared than the MC shift. The 4.7 auto will fully drive in manual mode - auto changes up at the redline and drops down like the MC if revs get too low - but the 4.2 will still kickdown in manual mode. Can't work out why they did the latter.

The 4.7 auto has valves in the exhaust that open at 3k revs in sport or 0k if you have the sports pack or a 'facelift' car which are September 12 production on.

Thanks guys, very informative. Shame the dealers don't remember all this!

Does it crackle and pop on downshifts, and can you double-tap to drop 2 "cogs", or is that limited to the MC version only?

Nareman sold my Quattroporte last year and I bought a 4200CC from him about four years ago which he then sold for me two years later.

A thoroughly decent and honest chap. He knows his Maseratis. I wholeheartedly recommend him.

I'm very happy with the noise which my 4.7 auto makes in sport - epic in a tunnel - but some people have said the MC is louder. The Stradale certainly is as I've heard one next to mine but not sure there is much in it auto to MC.

Yes it will double tap up and down.

Bought my GTS from Nareman at Nuvola. He Works out of a carpark in Shepards Bush London...And uses a parking attendants office as his own too :-)
On arrival there you will see some nice cars parked - some are his own stock and some are on SOR basis. Would
Take balls of steel to spend £50k+ on a car from someone based out of a carpark but in the end Im glad my balls were made of steel as it all went very well indeed.

Nareman is a Top lad no hesitations whatsoever recommending him to you. He is very knowledgable on the brand and has good connections with a Maserati Main dealer (Colchester) and Giallo in Kent to sort out any post purchase niggles. He also provides a rock solid 12 month warrantywise warranty with all cars sold :-)

Whilst I was there to see my car before I bought it he also ran me through the various models and let me test drive the car too.

HTH mate - mine is an MCshift and I don't think anything else can sound like it !

Thanks for all the responses so far.

I'm getting confused about the facelift... I thought that they introduced new seats and a new front end at the same time, but I'm seeing several cars in the classifieds with the later seats but original front end. Like this for example: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

Can anyone clarify the different revisions?

They are still the original seats but for the 2012MY they changed the pattern that's all. 2013MY onwards has all the changes that you refer to.

Correct, these are the 2013MY seats:

Please not the pre-facelift MC Shift has different seats to the Auto.

Well slightly, the seat frame and outer sections are the same but the mid sections have a different pattern and came as standard with alcantara but many are upgraded to full leather. Facelift seats are very nice.

I'm really happy with the noise of my auto 4.7 with the valves open. I've little experience of the MC Shift - driven one once - but some people say that it is louder.

Thanks guys, and I agree the latest style seats look great. The originals weren't bad at all, but these really lift the interior

The GTS 4.7 Auto valves open after 4000RPM which mean quite a lot of downshift is required to make some noise. On the other hand the MCShift valves remain open when the SPORT button is pressed and it is bloody magnificent! It pops and crackles clearing it's throat every time you take your foot of the pedal and the sound rumbles off nearby buildings - it is just insane. In fact so insane that yesterday afternoon I took a 458 for a test drive as am thinking of replacing my MCshift with one and it sound nothing like my car - the salesman agreed that the MCshift is the best sounding car out of the whole Italian stable - sure many will disagree but until you hear one properly you won't know where I am coming from smile It is perfect - not boy racer loud but loud and classy if there is such a thing lol !

Apparently the earlier (circa 2010) 458's used to sound pretty much like this with over run crackles etc but a software update in 2012 killed the sounds it it is much more sedate now. It will need a TUBI exhaust to match my current car.

Suggest you go and drive one to know what I am rambling on about smile

Best to drive both and choose what suits you best as the two gearboxes are very different.

+1 - totally different cars. It's very much down to personal preference.

My Experience. I bought a 2010 GTS auto couple weeks ago, I looked at and drove the MC shift and liked it a lot but the gearbox wasn't for me. It's very aggressive and jerky, reverse is a pain and for tootling around town is just hopeless. For driver input and involvement I've little doubt it's better than the auto, it's just that I prefer lazy driving with the option of paddles (which incidentally work perfectly well for a blast). It really is a beautiful car in the flesh and sits very comfortably pottering about town. The exhaust note is slightly louder and a little raspier on the MC shift, the auto is more akin to the AMG burble than an italian roar, much more exotic sounding though. The valves on the auto open at 3k in sport mode, this can be heard quite clearly, and default open in MC shift sport mode. Ultimately they are both different cars to drive and listen to, and in the end the auto worked for me. You really should drive and compare both, when you do you will buy one.

Hope this helps and good luck.
