Koenigsegg One:1 photos
Discussion
A couple of weekends ago I ducked into the Supervettura showroom to photograph the Koenigsegg One:1 that was in the UK for a few days. Wicked looking car, dripping in carbon fibre. The car wasn't easy to shoot as it was in the middle of their tightly packed showroom and I was there during opening hours (along with very many other people who there to see the car). Less than ideal conditions - but these are some of the pics:

I realise they have no need to satisfy me but when your major USP is your top speed, where is the data to back up the claims??

Their USP is the power to weight surely? I realise they have no need to satisfy me but when your major USP is your top speed, where is the data to back up the claims??

That's always been my issue with Koenigseggs. A few years back when they went to the trouble of getting the acceleration world records (with the Agera, I think), surely that was the opportunity to really show off the top speed potential too? If the cars really can do 250mph+ - 270mph+ as claimed, where's the evidence? At least the Hennessey and SSC Ultimate Aero cars were able to back up their claims (although thanks to some world records confusion and testing clarifications, I think the Veyron Super Sport is still the official fastest production car, isn't it?). I also recall that the Koenigsegg CCR was, pre-Veyron, the world's fastest car for a time.I realise they have no need to satisfy me but when your major USP is your top speed, where is the data to back up the claims??
This leads me to something related. Presumably Koenigsegg must do some high-speed testing themselves as part of the development process, so where do they go? I doubt if VW will let them use Ehra-Lessien, and it'd be a brave man to try Nardo at 250mph+!
Koenigsegg are based at Ängelholm, an old air force base, and it looks like they've done some record runs there: http://koenigsegg.com/new-world-records/

Correct, but they're the acceleration and braking records I alluded to with the Agera. I did a bit of quick research on Angelholm, and it's a working airport, although Koenigsegg have control of a military runway no longer in use. I couldn't find the length of the military runway, but visually it looks similar to the regular runway at Angelholm which is 6562ft (about 1.25 miles). Koenigseggs are ridiculously fast in a straight line but I take it there's no way you could max them on a runway that short and stop in time?!BelfastBoy said:

You should be able to use google maps to accurately measure the runway, if you care enough.BelfastBoy said:

Maybe they should re-gear the rear end and make an attempt on the Texas mile record, now that would be news

You are right about the Ehra-Lessien, no way will VW allow another company access to break the Bugatti record. I cannot think of anywhere else on the planet apart from a a salt flat where you could attempt the speed they claim the car can do. Which then begs the question "Whats the point???" Even the owners cant claim pub bragging rights because the so called top speed has never been proven.

No idea if it was ever any good as a car, but I always had a sneaky respect for SSC's approach when getting the speed record in 2007 with the Ultimate Aero:Personally I think Koenigsegg should drop this whole hyperspeed sillyness, it only appeals to the 16 year old spotty kids.
