All -

I am in the market for a later Gransport (I have decided I prefer this to an equivalently-priced Granturismo).

What do you think of the below?:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/m...

It is clearly toppy pricewise, and I think I could do a deal on it for £34k, but even then, is it overpriced? Should I be concerned (ironically) that it hasn't done enough mileage for its age?! I will pay for an inspection on the vehicle before buying in any case.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts - as ever, I appreciate the deep waters of expertise here on on PH.

All best.

Very pretty and it has full leather and Xenon's which are desirable, isn't an LE though as no Auditorium HiFI, so may or may not have heated seats if that is important to you.

They are great cars, for more information pop over to http://www.sportsmaserati.com/forum.php where all your questions will be answered. Site has had a server issue the last day or so but is expected to be back up in the next day or so I gather.

Regards,

Robin

Never ceases to amaze me how much people try and get for the Gransport and much of it comes down to supply and demand, there is more demand over the 4200 but less supply, so seller's market. This does look expensive and you are paying for the low mileage which is not necessarily a good thing, these cars need to be used properly on a regular basis to help avoid problems. That said it looks a nice example (I had a 4200 in exactly the same colours including the leather headliner and it was stunning) and if you are happy to pay the price and it checks out, why not, life is short!

That car matches exactly the spec I wanted when looking.

It's definitely a toppy price but if it's a tidy one and has had regular services (at least annual), it could be sorth a closer look. Definitely get it inspected!

As has been said, these cars don't like sitting still. The only trouble I've ever had with mine was at a time I used it the least!

If, as the poster above says, it's not an LE, it might be worth seeing when it was built - I'm not 100% but I seem to recall the last batch were all LE models. It wasn't uncommon for them to sit in showrooms long after being made. There are a couple on 08 plates, even though production stopped in April 2007.

If you do buy it, look after it and it will look after you.

You're paying top rate for a low mileage minter. Pretty much what I did when I bought a 2 owner 24k mile one. Don't be fooled by exterior appearance. If it really is mint, it is because someone has spent a few hundred quid getting all the stone chips done and machine polishing it. For that perticular car, I'd also be wary of the leather - not to my personal taste and might be a bugger to keep clean.

The upshot with mine was I began to worry about using it, damaging that perfect paint, putting miles on unecessarily as it disproportionately affects value, etc etc. I may as well have bought a Ferrari wink

Despite my car's previous owner for 5 years or so being a well known Indy garage owner, there have been a few niggles that can be costly to repair (hell, everything can be costly to repair). Several of these could have been down to spending the last few years in a dessicated bubble removing all the volatiles from the grease.

Eventually we thought 'sod it, it's only money' and I think the wife has taken it to work today (in the pouring rain we have down here), however in reality I'd have been a lot better off (both financially and in terms of enjoying and using it more) buying a much cheaper facelift 4200 with more miles on it.

If you want and can afford the best, then go for it.

If you want one you're happy to put 5k a year on going to France and Spain and won't worry much about leaving it parked up outside a pub, then you might be suffering from "shiny car syndrome" smile

Looks a nice one but you're paying a big premium for the low miles, if you're intending to put a few miles on it then you'll lose that premium pretty quickly.

Mine clocked over 68k at the weekend as i thrashed it around the Scottish highlands, still drives superbly and honestly seems happiest when i'm driving it more regularly and driving it hard

looking back through the bills mine had an awful lot of money spent on it between 35 & 47k, not sure if other cars would be the same but the bills in that time added up to close to what i paid for the car. I've had it since 50k miles and had to replace a clutch, thermostat and engine temp sensor which is nothing really

still can't think of a car for anywhere near similar money that i'd rather have

This is a PHers car and is an absolute corker. Really is a wonderful example, can highly recommend.

Thanks all for your helpful insight. On the basis of comments made, I don't think this is the one for me as I want to buy a car and I can comfortably drive. However, I am likely to pick up a Gransport so will keep you all posted!

Those guys in Twyford do get some nice cars in, I've browsed a few of those recently but decided to keep the GS for the trip to Angouleme and Aragon in september.

I would suggest driving several before you buy - they do tend to drive very differently, and always get an inspection done. The owners' club and forums are excellent as well - good place to find stuff and find stuff out

Personally I wouldn't recommend it to one of our clients.

Be better to get something that you won't loose as much money on.

With the Gransports, you should be able to get a lovely clean example with less than 30K on the clock for under £30k.

I sourced one of these last year and we paid £29K for a similar spec car (only it was blue) with 21K on the clock.

I agree with what you say, that looks as near as a GS gets to investment grade and investment price.

You'll know more about this than me, but but I would be surprised if they hadn't acquired it for similar money to the one you found.
