£79K for a paint job?!?
Discussion
Ignoring the choice of colours, can this really be the correct price for a paint job?

Can't comment on the accuracy of the report, but would say that nothing would surprise me. McLaren et al appear to be able to charge pretty much whatever they like for such 'bespoke levels of individual customisation' etc, and there seems to be plenty of wealthy people out there happy to throw money at them, just because they can. I imagine that, in certain crass circles, it could even be a badge of honour to boast about how much it cost to make your brilliant car look just so bad?!
In terms of McLaren options pricing, I'm also reminded of a recent thread about some extortionate price levied for coloured seatbelts!

I did make the Brazilian connection however it appears to be destined for China and has a reverse Romanian flag on the spoiler, quite an odd combo
I'm all for doing whatever you want to your own car, hence the amount of s
t I get in the badly modified cars thread haha
Nowt wrong with the colour choice IMO just shocked by the actual cost of the paint job

The car is a Chinese-delivered car, first seen in September 2014, and delivered in late October 2014.
The colour scheme is reminicent of, if not based on, the livery of local taxis. Rumour has it that the owner owns the taxi company but this is not verified.
The stated price seems rather high. But I believe that McLaren have used price to try and disuade owners from certain ideas and this could be the case. I know there is a document of recommend (and discouraged) colour combinations for the P1!
There are two approaches to MSO really: 1. you bring together a group of folks wanting a certain item (the full carbonfibre roof, the custom louvres, for example) and you split the cost, or 2. you pay for the full R&D, and testing and keep the technology unique to yourself. Ordinarily, if you want something newly or re-engineered you pay full whack and those after get it much cheaper!
In essence, you cn get what you want from MSO, not even within reason, but only if you pay for it.

Changes on seatbelts and steering wheels are a totally different kettle of fish. I *believe* that every change on a piece of safety equipment in a car requires a full set of safety tests (apparently 4 or 5) at the cost of £25,000 per test! There are two approaches to MSO really: 1. you bring together a group of folks wanting a certain item (the full carbonfibre roof, the custom louvres, for example) and you split the cost, or 2. you pay for the full R&D, and testing and keep the technology unique to yourself.
