I bought my granturismo 2014 which had 4.3k miles on the clock back in December and have done almost 3k miles to date. The paintwork was immaculate on purchase but now has some pretty big stone chips over the nose which I have only noticed recently. There must be a dozen. Is this reasonable?

Unfortunately Maserati are one of a few manufacturers whose factory clearcoat is very much on the soft side - the main issue then of course is that you'll pick up paint defects, including chips relatively easily.

Some people go down the PPF route, some a repaint every couple of years if it's a long(er) term ownership proposition, or some the quartz/ceramic paint coating route - the latter being unmeasurable but through personal testing definitely keeps a car looking fresher for longer although depends on how the car is looked after and won't protect against chips, more so wash marring/swirls etc.

cheers

Thanks Chris, After owning several TVR's over the years you would think I would be accepting of it! I was always of the view that you leave it uncovered and repaint the nose when it needs it but getting PPF does seem to make sense. Will run it for a while and see how much more I pick up. Can see me getting it corrected then PPF'd mirrors and nose and possible bonnet?? don't really like the stuff though. The leather seems to show jean marks very easily too. The positives make up for it though.

Yes if it was me I'd just spend the money and get the relevant areas repainted as/when the chips became unacceptable.
Dr Leather dye block on a deep cleaned leather interior will help keep it tip top.
Completely agree...tons of positives far outweigh the odd negative.

Enjoy every mile.

Don't pay extra for any dealer provided clear coat or such rubbish. Go to a reputable firm and get the car wrapped with Self Healing Paint Protection Film. You can have the leading edges, the front 1/3, the front 1/2 or the entire car wrapped (at different costs). You can also get the paint corrected before hand - which I do to all my cars.

You'd be amazed as to how ste manufacturers original paint work is........generally....
