Ferrari's Appreciate Lambo's depreciate?
Discussion
Had an Interesting Pub conversation the other night about how Ferrari's (360, 599, F430's etc) are appreciating quite a bit but the Lambo's (Aventador, Gallardo and even the new Huracan) are depreciating pretty quick. The Murc's seem to have done OK but not as good as say a Ferrari 575m....any thoughts as to why?
As new car or "poster car" both seem to be as desirable as each other so why do the F car's go up in value?

Galllardos have appreciated over the last few years, Aventadors have stayed static and Huracans have dropped off but not by much. It is true tho 360, 430 have gone up while the 458's have maintained their values for a while. They all drop off initially from new but if they are pampered and hardly driven the depreciation curve seems to flatten out with all of them!

I don't understand why Aventadors have held their prices so well.
I'm waiting for them to get to <£200k and I'm still waiting.......
A five year old V12 Lambo suffering almost no depreciation is something that has never happened historically, even during the last car price bubble.

I can only assume its because to go any faster or look any wilder you have to spend at least double. It's actually something of a bargain in that context.
Think you're all missing one important factor that is intrinsically linked to values
- Heritage
Now there are various ways to quantify this factor, Ferrari has racing heritage by the bucket load where as Lambo do not. They do have road car heritage with the Miura being the first real mid engine supercar, SV's have the rarity factor and look at those prices. Apart from that their cars will go through the usual depreciation bounce most if not all cars do.
Even marque's with heritage depreciate - I guess the history and 'provenance' helps the rate, recovery and if they are later viewed as investable...

Because there's nothing to compete with them visually at that price point and the engines are monstrous?Just imagine if the gearboxes were any good!
Even Gallardo's have increased if you look at the market over the last 6 years or so. I bought a good spec, 1 owner 2008 Spyder with 6k on the clock from a main dealer at £80k 3 years ago. The same dealer bought it back off me with an extra 10k on it and another owner and paid me back the £80k. A few get written off, a lot of UK ones go out to the far east and australia. All helps to push the price up, locally at least.
