Just a heads up that the Jeremyvine show are discussing the arabs shipping over there cars this week to London. They will be talking about the new restrictions on the supercars in and around london.
They will be chatting around 12.30 today or just catch it on the catch up player.

Thought there was now a special import tax for gold-plated bedknobs ?

I get the kick off about the excessive speeding, revs etc, but at the same time, gives us dreamers a chance to see cars I doubt we will ever get the chance to see again, thinking of the zonda cinques, koenigsegg etc, not the blinged up gold aventadors, restricitons will just make them spend their millions somewhere else

It's a complicated problem for sure.

Also calling it an "Arab supercar problem" is a bit narrow-minded, I'd say there is at least as much blame to be placed at the feet of those who turn up to try and make a name for themselves vlogging (ugh). It's a symbiotic thing really, if there wasn't the attention then there wouldn't be (so much) playing up to it.

The other question is - how much money does this actually translate to in the local economy? How much of that ends up in the coffers of companies with creative tax accounting anyway? The idea that this lads on tour behaviour translates to statistically relevant and positive tourism benefits is debatable at best.

For the residents it's pretty clear cut - would you want these cars doing laps & revving their bks off past your house?

As do the majority of spotty young lads who run amongst traffic as if their lives will be worthless unless they capture a stty photo for their facebook page. Even if they get run over in the process and have an Aventador tyre tread engraved on their torso for all eternity biggrin

Somehow I can't see those types pursuing a girlfriend with the same zeal...they should really be taking photos of the high priced hookers drivers of said cars have in their passenger seats, far more interesting smilesmilesmilesmile

Same thing happens around where I live on the south bank but instead of super cars we get max powered corsas and bmw's but no police come around here to stop them. Happens throughout the year too and when they take a break a bunch of soured up motorbikes take over. So not restricted to Arabs but at least they're cutting down on carbon emissions by being local ;p

Hey guys, let's not complain too much, otherwise they'll enforce electric and then driver-less cars a few years earlier....

You win, Pistonheads.

I started 'car spotting' mostly off the back of the 'Supercars Spotter, Some Rarities' thread. Back then in around 2008-10, it was posting pictures of the London car scene in general and they got great reception here. In early 2010 I started playing around with videos and posted the links here, because it was fun, and again the reception was great and people asked me to do more - so I did. At that time you didn't really run a 'YouTube channel', it was effectively a hosting platform for content to link elsewhere.

At some point down the line, the Pistonheads massive changed its mind and decided this was a bad thing so I stopped and kept my posts here to car discussions or things on other topics. Of course for more years I continued car spotting because it was a fun thing to do and it introduced you to people who liked cars and shared passions but more recently it has just become a constant source of fighting, overly-heavy discussion, and more than my fair share of insults received.

This has basically gone full circle; the community here made something and then decided it didn't like it. I haven't been car spotting for over 6 months and it's mostly thanks to you guys so please feel free to give yourselves a pat on the back. Occasionally in the future I might do it once or twice for old time's sake but that's hopefully no worse than the rest of the press that does exactly the same.

In the mean time I'll go off and film some more fun road trips - they beat walking around London anyway. Hopefully you guys will find something else to complain about, and I'm sure you will.

I gather it helps to pay towards a lot of your cars.

Fair play to you.

+1, you seem to have made a very successful career out of it, and for that i admire you.
In fact, if you didn't come across as such a dry lunch, i'd probably really like you.

You're (still) being disingenuous though Shmee, in my humble opinion of course.

Without picking it to pieces - you haven't had to do car spotting for 6 months because you don't need to now, not because of some grandiose change of heart or attack of conscience over the now rampant genie you've been a part of letting out of the bottle.

You've got through the grafting phase of it, the part where any negative feedback is dismissed against a backdrop of wanting to own & drive the cars you were spotting, so you have the luxury now of retconning the past and presenting a holier-than-thou "I don't do that anymore" persona.

On the one hand I can respect the fact that you've put a non-trivial amount of effort in getting to where you are. As the old adage goes - if it were that easy everyone would do it. You struck while the iron was hot, and now can enjoy the spoils. The fact that you may (I'd argue did) contribute to the culture that exists today, the one Kensington & Chelsea have had to enact legislation to try and curtail doesn't seem to factor into your thought process.

I saw a video recently around the time Arab supercars were last in the news where you were earnestly talking to the camera about how you "don't personally encourage this kind of behavior", yet the majority of your videos slavishly feature it. Burnouts, exhaust flames, all the worst elements associated with supercars on Sloane street et al. It's disingenuous to claim that you don't promote this behaviour, now or in the past, when the bedrock of your YouTube channel is exactly this behaviour.

The ad revenue from this stuff is in no small part what has enabled you to ascend above the serfs still out there with their cameras, hoping to catch the next black Aventador slamming into some poor bd. If you were honest about your origins, instead of this faux sincerity - more would be happy to tip their hat, I feel.

Appreciate your comments, but not going to get into a long back-and-forth PH discussion. If we should cross then let's definitely talk in person.

For what it's worth, I have since moved out of RBKC and don't want to be near there any more when previously I moved to the area for the cars.

The thing is...you do it properly. You don't appear to get in the way of cars and you don't make yourself stand out whilst doing it...you aren't all "look at me" in your videos unlike a certain bicolore driver, THAT is the "type" giving it all a bad name.

Then you get 13 year olds with the latest DSLR at Christmas copying him but with no idea that cars are dangerous things and they do things like standing in a junction to take pictures etc.

Just keep doing what you do the way you do it please biggrin

Oh yes. Bikers are all about discipline. Instead of weaving dangerously in between traffic they much prefer to be safer by revving the nuts off their bikes while going around a roundabout then tearing it up a very short road to the next traffic light. It's actually very considerate to the residents around the area because it's a known fact that bike and car sports exhaust noise at 2am helps you sleep if you have insomnia : biggrin :

Like here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UftHJxYOq9c

Fair play to you and your cars etc however this video highlights Druzel's point. I feel sorry for the residents personally and hope the authorities clamp down on it. It's never as much of an issue outside of Kensington, Chelsea, Mayfair area I bet.
