Driving across the USA in a Maserati
Discussion
I'm not really sure that this is 'supercar' fodder, but it involves a Maserati which does seem to fit within this subforum.
Myself and my father are currently driving coast-to-coast across the USA (currently in Nashville and heading West towards San Diego and LA). We had booked a regular car from Avis. but on arrival in Washington DC, we spotted a rather shiny new Maserati Ghibli parked outside the Avis rental centre (along with a new Corvette).
I couldn't quite winch my elderly father down into the Corvette, so we decided to take the Maserati (at a rather eye-watering additional price) on the basis of a one-way hire. The car had about 300 miles on the clock when we took the keys. I suspect it will have somewhat more when we hand it back!
So far so good... it sounds lovely (it's the twin turbo V6 version, but not the 's') especially in sport mode. The gearbox is a bit disappointing though. as it's 8-speed, it is forever changing up and down at motorway speeds in an effort to balance economy with performance. The interior is pretty nice but obviously not quite as luxurious as the Quattroporte, but it definitely feels more 'special' than the BMW 5-series and Merc E-class alternatives.
