(I know there's a main PH article, but in here you might get fewer morons)

Limited run by FSP, £1.75m plus options, 10 to be made for Japan only. 488 Spider based, but with 690hp and removable carbon targa panels.

Now, call me overly dramatic but that's the best looking Ferrari in the last 20yrs to these eyes, absolutely stunning.

Why can't they make the production cars that pretty?

I posted about it in the Ferrari V8 section too.

Agreed. Best looking Ferrari since the 355.

I've been asking the same. They clearly can, but for some reason, they don't.

The only downside to this is, it makes the 488 look decidedly dull.

That looks fantastic to my eyes, have to agree about it being the nicest since the 355.

Love that - can see influences of 512BB in it as well....

I love this, but yes as mentioned does show the relative lack of imagination that went into the 488's evolution from the Italia!

355 is still the last beautiful Ferrari though in my opinion.

Perhaps it's an indication of what's to come, post 488.

Stunning. Pricey, but stunning.

My guess in they get more freedom when doing small runs. When doing large scale models, they have to play it safe and pander to the (relative) mainstream.

It annoys me that Ferrari can produce a design like that but put into production a dogs dinner that is the 458/488 model line. It does not cost anymore to produce a good design rather than a bad one. Surely their internal focus groups would never have given the 458/488 a look in if they had been presented with this first?

Anyway as you may have gathered I love this design, and as others have said this is the best looking Ferrari I have seen since the 355 and that includes the La Ferrari.

And why only for the Japanese, if you are going to make as a limited production it makes sense to build at least 10 for each market or would that be too costly??

I'm not agreeing with the 'dogs dinner bit', but I agree about the main thrust of your post.

This is a really 'different' yet totally Ferrari design, which has bits of grace and style as well as drama and aggression...along with beautifully integrated nods to the back catalogue..

Certainly an indication of what they can come up with when its low volume and hasn't got to appeal to thousands of buyers... life cycle of the 488 still has another 4-5 years so even this will look dated by then and the replacement will no doubt be 'safer'.

I'm sure the design team would love to come up with more detailed stuff like this every time!
