The Aston Martin is a very fast sports GT, the McLaren is a junior supercar.
At the end of the day, neither will be 'wrong' so buy the one which feels the most special when you drive them based upon the type of driving you do.
Personally, if you are looking at a McLaren of that age against a nearly new Aston, you need to factor maintenance and warranty costs on top of purchase cost. If you have any concerns over an older McLaren, look at the 570s.

Simplistically Ones a proper fast lightweight supercar and one is a heavy GT Cruiser.
Love how the Aston looks and sounds, real classic lines and super smooth engine but cant help thinking its very dated technology in comparison to McLaren which whilst being an older car was ahead of its time and still more modern than the later Aston.
As soon as you open those dihedral doors everyone knows the McLaren is a proper supercar and not a sports car

As somebody who owns a McLaren 12c spider and a V12 Aston(DB9 rather than v12v so not a straight comparison) they dont even come close. It depends what you are after - the McLaren is an event at any speed, everybody loves it, its stupidly quick, the brakes are tons better, the doors, the stearing is sharp, the attention it gets is crazy, people think you are a superstar. The Aston on the otherhand just looks lovely, in comparison its slow and heavy, everybody loves it but in comparison it gets hardly any attention - just a polite nod of the head rather than demands for pictures with it. The Aston feels well made and I love it to bits but there is only one car i cant wait to drive......

Agree with all of that. I did look at buying a manual V12V because they do look lovely but just felt it was too heavy and laid back in its power delivery to be exciting.Its a very stealth car in comparison to a McLaren
12c for tech and outright speed. AM for looks and that 'I don't need to prove anything' warm contented feeling. Seriously though, here in the UK I'd go for the AM. If you're driving abroad where you can open up the McL then the 12C makes sense. Otherwise when are you actually going to get anywhere near it's potential unless you track it. As a Lambo owner I've come to realise I live in the wrong country to fully enjoy supercars.

Looks are subjective but thats a negative for me, my Vantage is 10 years old and still looks fabulous, value is circa £35k so why pay £100k plus for something thats looks essentially the same?DannyScene said:

+1. This.I'd personally love to add a v12 Vantage. Timeless design V12 engine and a manual. Think history will look back very favourably on these. Especially as they will be Mercedes blown lumps with the new car

With regards to one has newer tech and is faster etc - so want, they are all too fast anyway. which one would most petrochemische rather own 250 GTO or a P1 .....

Ha ha, I came here to post the exact opposite.12C is an early example of the current-generation of supercars; V12V is one of the last of the last-generation of supercars.
Which era you prefer will largely dictate which car you prefer.

I had a similar (ish) dilema. Few years back I owned a manual 2006 Gallardo with a Tubi exhaust that would literally spit flames! It's the most insanse thing i'd ever driven. However, I couldn't keep my eyes out off the Aston Martin dealership and lusted after a V12V Manual.
Now for whatever illogical reason, I've always been a man that doesn't like to test drive cars before I own them. Can't explain it, it's just the way I am. But for whatever reason I felt the need to drive it first.
The first test drive I had was with the Aston Martin dealship near Hanger Lane. It was a V12V Manual, black, bucket seats the lot!
Soon as I laid eyes on the car I was sold. I was pretty sure i'd be saying goodbye to my Gallardo, I couldn't afford to keep both. But I held back my excitement to not tip of the salesman that he had me (at hello??

). I start her up and instantly felt like I was James Bond, at this point the man maths kicked in.... I was screwed! .... but .. "I was James Bond"
So we head out of the dealership for a drive. Everything was great, I was visualising what my ownership experience would be like. Give it some beans I thought, salesman did too. I step on the gas, reach for the clutch to change gear with some commitment (remember at this point I still think I'm James Bond) then... WHACK!! I've only gone and hit my funny bone! there are these little bloody ashtrays/drinks holder slots right where your elbow naturally goes when you change gear! for the whooooole bloody test drive all I was thinking was that I didnt want to f***k my elbow again!
So, that was that. The end of that movie. I didn't become James Bond because I can't forgive Aston Martins designers for spoiling an otherwise brilliant car, because it will hurt my elbow.
Fast forward literally only a few weeks. I was working in mayfair at the time, being the weak man I am when it comes to cars, I pop into the local park lane dealership and kindly asked if they would bring a V12Vs with the sportshift to my office, to which they kindly agreed. Fell in love.... again... but now my issue was, even the V12VS wasnt anywhere near the experience my Gallardo gave me. What allured me to the V12V was that it was sold as Astons Martins answer to the Porsche GT3. I didn't see it.
Lasting result....I now test drive everything!
