Question For Old People

This follows a conversation with a mate who says I'm talking balls. Again.

Back in the 1980's, there was a car magazine that did a group test (acceleration, mainly) between an Esprit Turbo, an AM Vantage (OI), a Countach, possibly a Testarossa and perhaps something else as well.

As I recall it, the Esprit largely held its own, although I seem to remember that something suffered a mechanical problem (turbo?) On the day.

Does anybody remember the test, and the magazine? I expect it was Car or Fast Lane, and if I could find a copy, it would win me a pint. Even though it'll probably cost more than that to buy the back issue...

Thank you, I already tried that. It's not March 1990. There wasn't a Diablo in it, or an F40. It was a Countach and a Testarossa and an Aston Martin OI Vantage.

That sounds like it, yes! Is it Car, or Fast Lane? Or something else? I can't find it.

Not admitting to anything here ...... however is that the one that came with the cassette of the top 10 car sounds ? F40 etc

Fast lane did a gtrack test at brands lof a V8 Vantage and (I think) a Countach, 959 and Lister jaguar. I still have the magazine, and I had th cassette but lent it to someone...

There was also a straightnline test including a Turbo Esprit, Aston, Porsche etc which I remember TVS news saying they will show it later, but I missed the 6 O'clock news and never say who won...

There wasn't a cassette with the magazine that I'm trying to find. The F40 didn't exist at the time.

As I remember it, the Lotus won the acceleration tests until the turbo packed in. I hope that's what happened, because my free pint rests on the claim that an Esprit Turbo could out-accelerate a Countach...

Cant remember, but i do remember nothing nothing beating a Porsche Turbo.
