Considering a FF/Lamborghini Murcielago/599?!

Hi, last year I bought a F430 to test out the waters in terms of owing a 2 seater supercar alongside a 4 seater.
It hasn't been too harrowing of an experience, so I'm considering moving up slightly. Owned a few Ferraris in the past and almost bought a Diablo at one point but was put off by the flimsiness when reading ownership forums. The problem stepping up to the next level is that a number of distinct and different choices open up:
- do I sell both cars and move back to a 4 seater V12 Ferrari
- in terms of Lamborghinis, it has to have the scissor doors. I like the Murcielago but it sounds really wide for UK roads. Does anyone know the history behind this car? I've seen it on Autotrader advertised for some time as a cat D.

- the Ferrari 599 looks tasty but shares some switchgear with the 612 which I found had to be treated with kid gloves
- or do some visual upgrades to my F430
The car would be used occasionally at weekends to tick over then one big trip in the year (either domestic or on the continent). I probably only get a chance to put on 1-2K miles a year. I don't mind some depreciation, but I don't want to take a bath over the sale. I do some simple mechanical work on the car myself, but usually service at the main dealer.

I had 3 599's brilliant and a real drivers car. Ludicrously quick and to be even touching the performance envelope you need to be going very quickly. They can be driven slower but ride is jittery and uncomfortable.
FF is a much more useable car, power delivery is more torque based and whilst quick and on paper more powerful it doesn't feel as fast as the 599 but as said more useable, ride is good at all speeds and handles surprisingly well

If you go the Murcielago route I would advise to look at the lp640. It has more updated parts that the 6.2l murci was lacking.
I have a Murcielago 6.2l and love it... but I have had to spend a few quid getting some parts upgraded such as full brake system which has cost a small fortune. The stock Brakes were just bloody crap. Overall the Murcielago feels more GT like rather than a sporty supercar that the lp640 seems to be. Would love an lp670 as it's got what Lamborghini is all about but silly money for them these days.

Carbon fiber kits are extremely expensive and some people may have used Glass fiber on theirs which is a hit n miss as some people won't care but others might- so that murci you linked being a Cat D and most likely Glass fiber sv kit could be a hard sell if you plan on having it short term. It also has a few failed MOTs in its history which for a car of its prestige is a bit concerning. I am guessing it hasn't retained its original parts to return to stock etc? Still.. its a cheap Murci if all the above doesn't bother you.

I’ve got an early Murcielago too.
Great car - you can drive it very fast. It doesn’t feel particularly wide.
I don’t share the comment about the brakes.
There’s just something about V12 Lambos...........but I wouldn’t touch the car in the link with a barge pole. Go for a car that’s kinda like it came out of the factory as........

brakes on 580bhp cars were a carry over from the Diablo 5.7 (1998)/Diablo 6.0 cars, just as was done with the early Diablos which had Countach brakes.
They are really good on a 1999 Diablo, but the Murci weighs more.
Is the car the OP refers to the LP-647 or something like that ? I think that moniker was in the upper door trims ?

FF vs the others are very different propositions imo
I use my FF as my only/daily car - it sounds like a supercar but the rest of the experience is daily driver, just a lot more special than say an RS6 or similar
Love the Murcielago but have never driven one - but that's a proper supercar looks/sound etc

Get a Murci LP640 and buy a good SV kit with OEM exhaust and alloys and no decals to make out its something its not, thats what i would do.
On a slightly different tack, have you thought about a McLaren 570s / 570GT.
Lacks the grandeur of the V12 engine in the other suggestions, but they're not lacking in pace and for similar money you're in a modern supercar which will have the comfort of a manufacturers warranty and have the scissor doors you were after with the Lambo.

The 599 is more useable and modern. Super exciting to drive and oozes engineering quality.
The Murci feels a generation older and much more suited to high days and holidays. They are quick bit not frighteningly so and the 4 wd keeps everything in check. I love the steering but the gearchange (manual on ours) is a bit long and clanky.
Overall, Murcis are surprisingly refined and well built and a bit of an event to drive.
Trouble is you look like a wally who can't afford a new lambo in the Murci whereas the 599 looks like last season's Armani suit. it's a far more sophisticated proposition.

For what it’s worth, in 30 years of Lamborghini ownership I have never once filled up a car with petrol and not ended up having a nice conversation with someone on the forecourt...........
Please don't get me wrong. I loved the Murci! but its definanetly alot about getting noticed. Wherever you go you get attention.
However for most people, the 599 in a sober colour isn't all that exciting. They perceive Ferraris to be mid engined, low slung and red.
Saying all that I am in the UAE and perceptions here are pretty different.

Those same people tend to think that newest, latest and greatest is a flash in the pan that's financed to hell by a flashy poser and short lived as it gets chopped in for the next thing.
