So a while back a point was raised by Jeremy Clarkson on Top gear, I mean Grand tour...About the only problem he sees with The Mercedes AMG GTR, is the engine. Comparing the engine from an e-class sport saloon, which has more horsepower and why Mercedes didn't put that in the GTR. Coming to the conclusion that Mercedes held back on power so they could release a newer version of the GTR later. Just curious to what peoples thoughts on this are? I mean from a business standpoint it makes sense but at the same point can leave bitter taste. Lemme know what you think?

Mercedes is the gorilla in the room for both street cars and F1. They do what they like. Their recent attitude does not endear me to buy another one of their products.

This isn't new though, is it? Apple do it with phones, so they can release a new version in the near future to get you to upgrade. Car manufacturers do it also.

I don't personally like it, knowing that right now they could make a better product but are saving it for the facelift, but it works for them commercially.

I think there will be a black series version at some point.

When I was looking at ordering one, the dealers in Sweden got extremely few allocations due to a "new" or "upgraded" GT-R for MY2019. Do what you will with that information. I'm a Porsche guy so I really don't follow AMG rumours that closely.

It's just basic GCSE business segmentation. Launch an entry model, then a mid, then a premium, then super-duper premium, and, in theory, you should mop up all the available pools of money from poor to rich or young to old.

The next model out is a 'Clubsport' type model, no more power but less weight. Then at the end of the production run there'll be a Black Series style car.

Allegedly.
