Lamborghini or Ferrari :)

What are your criteria? The HP wins on noise, drama and the ability to draw an incredible amount of attention from the general public. It's also much much easier for even the most ham fisted driver to hustle along quickly. The 488 is a Ferrari and, if it's your first supercar, it's going to feel more special than the Lambo, in my most humble of humble opinion.
Easy - PERFORMANTE all day long.
Naturally aspirated v Turbo charged is no contest when it comes to sound and throttle response. Turbo charged is likely to be quicker but at this level 0.01's isn't the be all and end all. This may be the last N/A V10 from lambo and look at prices of Ferrari's equivalent in the 458 Speciale
Special edition/limited run v regular production. Performante will be far rarer and sought after
Drama, theatre, FUN - Performante. 488 sounds terrible and is less appealing than a 458 in a lot of ways
Marketing, Branding, Heritage - Ferrari
You pays your money and takes your choice. Some say you are either a Ferrari man or a lambo man but I have had several of both and simply buy the best car, for me and my circumstances at the time, on its individual merits and not the badge.
If only McLaren did the 675LT spider with a naturally aspirated V8 or Lamborghini did the Huracan Performante spyder with a hard folding metal roof as that would be my dream car.
At the moment for me Ferrari sits in the safe middle ground between the 2 extremes of Lamborghini's FUN and drama and McLarens technology and performance.
That will suit some people as the perfect compromise but I don't do compromise and fortunately I can run the Performante alongside my McLaren 650S spider whilst the Ferrari F355 GTS manual is purely saved for really special occasions these days

Lambo in this instance for me without a doubt for all the reasons mentioned by RL. The Performante sounds awesome (I was in Portimao two weeks ago and there was a Performante there and it was by far the best sounding car by a long shot - better than the Speciale and any of the Macs and the relatively cra-p sounding 488 Challenge cars that were there).
You won't go wrong with a 488, but quite a few 458 owners have decided not to change into one because it loses that last 1000 rpm and a good bit of aural pleasure. The 488 is a stunning car, and no-one is ever "wrong" to choose the one they want at this level.
I actually think a Performante with a 200kg folding hard top would have to be dreadful though.

I'd take a 458 over the 488 any day. Not quite as quick, but not so much it matters, just for the noise. I had a Performante for the afternoon, with the race seats I found it very uncomfortable and as RL has pointed out in the past, the screen is so raked that the view out of the front is severely compromised. ( I recall he described it as bordering on dangerous). And out of the back is almost non existant. I'd also refer you to woppum's comments on driving one at the limits in another recent thread, from his collection I'd say he knows what he's talking about.

If you had to choose one model out of the 2 which would you choose and why:
Lamborghini Huracán Performante
Ferrari 488 GTB
I've driven both, so based on that.Lamborghini Huracán Performante
Ferrari 488 GTB
Performante for the amazing engine and ease of going very quickly with ease. Big negative points for visibility, non-Lambo doors and (IMHO) dated looks. Some carbon construction.
488 for the badge, great residuals and 7 year servicing. Also more fun/lively to drive. Big negative for still using bonded ali construction. Slowest by quite some margin.
You didn't ask about McLaren, but that's where I would look...

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Ferrari enthusiast but the Performante would get my vote here, quite simply because it sounds so much better and looks so much sharper. If the Ferrari was a 458 which is n/a and, in my opinion, looks far prettier than the 488, the decision would be much harder.Lamborghini Huracán Performante
Ferrari 488 GTB
I had this choice and bought the 488. I've not regretted it for 1 second.
Unless you are a professional driver you simply won't see much of a noticeable performance difference. I am talking on the track. On the road it's impossible to use either cars performance without risking your licence or putting someone in danger. The perfomonte is a track car, If you do lots of track days then it might be the better option, but if not it's probably not the right car, unless your going to stick it in a garage for 25 years as an investment.
After that it's personal preference. I love the turbo charged engine in the Ferrari, it's quite incredible and to me sounds wonderful. I was at my local football club last weekend. There was a hurrican and 650s there too but everyone wanted a picture with the Ferrari.
It's all down to personal choice but I think the Ferrari just looks much better. I drove the 458 on track and road it's a brilliant car but I perefered the 488 in terms of looks and the way it drives (again personal choice)
It's your money so buy what makes YOU happy.

I saw a 488 spider yesterday I'm the city. Looked kinda derivative and somewhat dated. I think the 458 is lovely but the 488 hasn't mo e things on. I went McLaren in the end. Side by side with a Ferrari the McLaren has so much more going in in the looks dept. Performance of course blows Ferrari away but I'm not a race driver so don't really are. I wouldn't dream of downing 200k plus on a 488 when the same money would get a 720s. A no brainer (to me at least).
the 458 has as much road presence as the 488 and looks every bit as good, also has the noise etc
don't under estimate how many people bought 488's just to keep their relationship sweet with ferrari in hope of getting further ltd editions
these days i'd probably go with a HP over a 488

No brainer for me, Huracan Performante as I'm in the group that thinks the 488 is a backwards step over the 458 in terms of looks and sound.
It would be a much harder decision if it was 458 Speciale vs Huracan Performante. Then I think i'd favour the Ferrari.

Tony from gravelwoods used to think that way with his dream car being the 458 Speciale until he drove the Huracan Performante

am i the only person who has no idea who Tony from Gravelwoods is and couldn't care about his opinion ??
Probably. Anyway just an unbiased opinion from a self confessed Ferrari fanboy who has been converted by the Performante,Edited by Jules360 on Friday 6th April 16:14
