Best Investment Car F40, F50, Enzo, other?
Discussion
Whilst we were at Salon Price this weekend (great event btw) we got speaking to several companies with investments cars for sale at the show (Enzo’s, Countach, F40, etc)
Having a beer afterwards, my mate came up with the following scenario:
“A 6 number Lotto win gives you £4m to invest in cars ... which cars & why?”.
My £4m got spent on 3 cars:
£2m on an Enzo
£900k on a Non Cat, non Adjust early F40 £900k
£1.1m on an Early Veyron
I just thought it might make an interesting PH Topic to get other (more knowledgable) people’s thoughts, with the same scenario .... Lotto win gives £4m to invest, but WHICH CARS & WHY ?

Finally a cool topic!
From a guy who has no supercars whatsoever (meaning I have an unbiased opimion), I'd actually steer clear of the obvious big hitters, can't help but feel like the early nineties supercars will be the next group of cars to spike in value, remember seeing an XJ220 for 80k a few years back (think it was advertised by oakfields) there not far from ten times that now!

£4M
.
First things first, a jaguar XJR-15, truly awesome cars with an incredible story behind them, somewhat forgotten about now days, which helps as you can no doubt find one for sub 500k
.
£3.5M
.
I see your veyron and raise you an EB110, less so a supersport, but an original GT in the blue, yours for hopefully less than 750k, with bugatti expanding the range it can't be long before people re-appreciate the 110, was seriously ahead of its time!
.
£2.75M
.
The absolute best lotus esprit I can find, preferably one in black with John player trim, only getting harder to find and will surely be worth it in the long run, let's be pessimistic and budget 150k here
.
£2.6M
.
A MK1 Aston Martin vanquish, always considered this my favourite semi modern GT I'm sure I can't be the only one, I'm not entirely sure how much a decent one goes for now days but let's say 200k
.
£2.4M
.
Probably the more obvious one here, A non 760s Zonda, I'm sure 2.4M will find me at least one, I can't help but feel like the Zonda F will age the nicest in time, and after seeing a few in the flesh the F is definately the best looking zonda for me, mid performer out of them all, but well before they started tacking on all sorts of vents and wings.

Great reply and some unusual cars on that list.
I had a MK1 Vanquish non S a few years ago ... such a beautiful car and made such a great sound and I loved driving it. Just the gearbox error warning that occasionally popped up on the dash that caused me to worry .... I eventually sold it for £28k in 2011, just before they shot up in value .... (holds head in hands).

My list goes something like this - wrote it yesterday and then realised it is just cars I want to own .... investment into my happiness, instead of purely financial
CGT - 600k [just because it is my favourite car]
XJR15 - 500k, difficult to establish true trading prices though [so rare, it must appreciate further in the long run]
F40 non cat, non adjust - 900k [too many, but still should be a decent bet]
550 Barchetta - 350k [because very limited, V12 manual convertible]
2.7 RS in a special colour (e.g. Signal Yellow) - 600k
for the remaining money I am not entirely sure, maybe try to get a 599 SA Aperta (again because super-rare, which might bode will for the very long run]

A F50 is I think for me anyway the only really obvious car to get as it ticks a lot of boxes - NA v12, manual and in particular, low production numbers (certainly compared to the F40) as that's the real factor in terms of 'investment quality'. And while no one had time for it's looks compared to the F40 when it was released, i think the Enzo has aged very badly in comparison to the F50.

That's a good list. I'd be adding a Muira of some sort, I think given how few were made, the quality of the design and what it represented at the time they're quite special cars and not bad value. Not sure about the F40 as there are just so many of them.CGT - 600k [just because it is my favourite car]

Maserati MC12 - £2.5m
Ferrari F50 - £2.0m
Lamborghini Reventón Roadster - £1.0m
Lamborghini Aventador SV - £0.32m
Ferrari 458 Speciale - £0.3m
Ferrari 575 Superamerica - £0.3m
BMW Z8 - £0.22m
I know it adds to £6.64m but they are all for sale at Joe Macari Cars so pretty sure I could get a 10% discount.

I think you will find (post 10 percent discount) that you will have to leave the F50 and the Z8 on the lot once you get the wallet out ... or negotiate harder Ferrari F50 - £2.0m

I was luckier than the OP and won £6million.

Everybody on Pistonheads will hate you, but you then have a free F50 ....
4m to "invest" you say? Sounds fun.
