I've been looking for quite a while for an exotic car my wife to buy. I was on here a while ago about the Mas 3200 and now we're starting to look seriously at them. So I phoned this evening an ad in Top Marques, the car is in Golders Green, 2001, 42,000 miles, auto, metallic blue with light cream interior, FSH not all at main dealers priced at 25K.
The guy had an engine warning light came on yesterday and so he took it to Styner in NW11 who gave him a comp readout, could be a sensor, cat etc quoted a poss 1K of work, but the mechanic told him to use some additive or other and suggested he runs it for 200 miles to see if it clears. So it does have some problem at the moment! Anyone seen this car, knows about it etc.
Do you think it is worth viewing???

Also with the recall on the 3200 on the steering rack stuff how's that going to affect buying one at the moment?

Thanks,
Geoff.

Geoff -

Good luck with the hunt. I must say it took me a fair few months to find the car I wanted. In the end I went over my budget (just didnt tell the wife) and went for an Assetto Corsa - well worth the extra IMO.

As regards this particular car - either factor the cost of the worst case into the purchase price, or wait for it to be resolved at the expense of the present owner. Is there any warranty on the car? It wouldnt put me off, as long as the owner was aware this may hit his selling price if it isnt fixed at sale time. Really need to see this car in the flesh and take it for a test drive for a valid comment.

The recall on the steering rack should not be an issue as (i) it should be done by the present owner or (ii) you can get it done yourself when you purchase the car, and at the same time get the car checked over. Either way, its also a good way of making sure all 'campaigns' or updates have been applied to the car, as Maserati are also including these FOC.

Cheers,
Michael

by the way, i'd say the bit about putting additive in and running for 200 miles is utter b**locks.

My engine warning light was on, went back 4 times before faulty throttle bodies diagnosed. Nearly 3 grand, get it checked.

Cheers,

Craig

Agree with Craig.

Usual engine warning light means dodgy o2 sensor.
I'd say the price on that car was a bit steep though - 25k for a 40k mile car! There are cars around for the same price with less miles* Service History with an independent isn't a problem - but it will affect the value if it's inside the first 3 years - after that then most people go to an independent.
