Hi All

I'm shortly to purchase a 3200GT. I was going to plump for the manual, but have warned off and told to go for the auto only.

The comment from a friend was thus:

"the problem does not lie specifically with the box itself but is related to the input shaft which at high thrust levels is capable of causing problems. "

This is second hand info apparently from an ex-Maranello mechanic.

Has anyone either heard of or experienced this problem?

Many thanks for any replies.

Sounds like rubbish to me.

The only gearbox problems the multiple users of this site have experience to my knowledge have been rebuilds on one auto box.

I am informed that the 3200GT gearbox is the same unit as the BMW M5 (outgoing) gearbox - so I'd be suprised if there were any quality issues...

Complete Crap - Sorry about the strong comments ...But people like this annoy me.
Speak to main dealers service depts to get an overall opinion.
I am sure you will find different.

Definitely sounds like a figment of someone's imagination perhaps trying to offload an Auto version. Being unkind, perhaps that's why the guy is ex-Maranello.

Getrag are about as bullet proof as you can get but bear in mind that that Maserati do NOT list or supply parts to rebuild them so probs, however unlikely, could mean a full replacement unless a Getrag specialist could be located. IIRC, the spares position is the same for the auto.
