Hi Guys I know that there is a Track Day Forum but i just wondered if anyone in from this forum has been to the Ring and been able to find Insurance??

The other forum seems to have a number of classic car owners on it and not as many specialist car owners. I'm sure the insurers will take a slightly dimmer view of a Gallardo or similar vehicle on the Ring.

We are trying to plan a trip for September and just wondered if anyone can through any light on the situation

Cheers
Shan

Buy this months Evo, theres a guide that tells you about the circuit, where to stay, fuel stops etc, not sure if it says about insurance but it would be good to have if your planning on going.

Who are you insured with as most UK policies (apart from DLine and tesco et al) don't exclude the 'ring, or other derestricted toll roads. If there is no specific exclusion you are covered for the ring as long as you have taken out, or already have EU cover. This is because the ring is not technically a track, it is a one way system with a toll.

hope this helps

I had the same thing. My insurance company started off saying I was not covered for 'track days'. I was able to point out that it is actually a toll road and German traffic laws apply. If for example you try to drive it under the influence of alcohol (very silly) you can be nicked by the German Plod in the normal way.

I picked up a leaflet at the track with all this info - not sure if I still have it though.

By the way the ring is very very scary. I am bothered by the number of drivers of very varied standards (including motorbikes, coaches - yes really and ordinary cars) on the track at the same time.

Stating the bleeding obvious I know but ...totally depends on how much traffic is on there and how hard you want to try

I presume they had to admit that you are actually covered. Who are you insured with? My current insurer (Privilege) won’t cover “de-restricted toll roads” even though it’s a public road. I’m planning to go there next year so I’d like to know of a company which does cover it.

Thanks,

I was insured with Sunninghill brokers at that time though I can't remember who the insurance company was.

That restriction from Privelige seems very strange. I'm sure you can find a policy which will cover you on an unrestricted toll road.

Hi Guys,

Just got back from the Ring yesterday.
It is not for those of a nervous disposition as faster traffic (and I guarantee there is a lot) will be flying past you even when you think you are going quick.
A lot of cars and a few unfortunate owners do come to grief on the Ring ,DON'T BE IN DOUBT OF THAT.It was closed a couple of times over the weekend for over an hour whilst wrecked vehicles were removed.
I would not like to pursue a big claim against an insurance company for a written off Ferrari or Porsche despite the arguments over the status of the Ring.It is a toll track, pay as you go, rather than a road, in my cynical opinion.
Having said all that, provided your pride and joy returns intact , you will be left with a truly memorable driving experience hardly repeatable anywhere else on the Planet!

PS Highly recommend the Dorit Hotel 00492691 309 0; it is part of the Grand Prix circuit and the rooms at the back face on to that circuit.Woken up on the Sunday morning at 7-30 to the sound and sight of F3 cars screaming passed my balcony!
