Hi guys,

Not interested in the debate of if an R8 is a supercar or not - posting on here just to get potentially better feedback than the Audi/VW section...

Considering jumping into an R8 this summer - getting itchy feet.

Previously owned a Gallardo, C63 and Bentley Conti GT 6.0 but just bimbling round in an electric EQC merc at present as a family car. This would be my side fun.

Heres one I've found I quite like the look of; https://www.junction17cars.co.uk/used-cars/audi-r8...

Thoughts on spec, price etc?

Thanks

Soleith

I quite like R8's. In particular I really like them with distinct sideblades like in the one you've linked where it's not body coloured. Makes the car much more distinctive IMHO. I'd probably not go for white as a first choice colour though.

Guess it depends on what you're going for but personally, I'd try to stretch the budget a bit and get a V10 though, black 2014 on autotrader with 25k miles for 64k....

I'd be double checking the dealer first. For some reason I have Junction 17 in my mind in a negative kind of way.

Cool car, and looks great in white

For me, I'd want a manual v8 car. Despite the extra pace and noise, I think that's where the R8 won as a sports car. It was unique as a mid engined car in a niche between the Cayman or 911, and sacrificing little in pace or specialness under a 458 or Gallardo, for a hefty saving.

Me too.

It's a really funny place to find such a dealer.

After owning a Gallardo you may find the V8 to be a little under powered. Before I get flamed for saying this, the V8 is an excellent car and has good performance. My 2 cents worth would be to suggest a V10 in either a manual or an S-tronic.

Perhaps you read one of these threads about them?

There is no debate...it is a supercar...this has been universally agreed on PH many times...

Thanks, I'm unsure if it was that particular article however I've definitely read something on PH about them. However this does backup my initial thoughts, although the story is 7 years old. Think the advice is to "proceed with caution".

For a pre 2010 ish car yes, last year £45k got you into a relatively low mileage one.

The one linked is a 2015 car..

I swapped from a manual V8 R8 to a Gallardo Superleggera and the difference was very marked.

I'm certainly glad I had the R8 as a stepping stone to Lamborghini but could never go back.

The Superleggera interior was superb being all alcantara and quite the 'occasion' as they say, whereas the R8 interior was dull in the extreme.

I haven't tried a V10 R8.

Also, and I might get shot for this, but I don't really get all the manual nostalgia. Horses for courses eh?

Last of the breed...American culture influence..."true" driver car... I also don't get it...specially when the manual gearbox on the R8 is so average...the only novelty is that it is gated...the R8 is all about the v10 engine...this is the main feature.

With experience of both I'm afraid I disagree. For the record, I don't have a downer on R-Tronics either.

The manual (once warmed up) is lovely, and pleasingly old-school. The gear selector cables are often out of adjustment (particularly so now the cars are older) and sometimes clutches a little the worse for wear. In good order the change is wonderful.

Nobody will shoot you for wanting the paddle shift car, though, and clearly the market spoke when new.
