What went on at the Mecum Kissimmee auction over the weekend?

It seems every special edition Ferrari went for more than double the market price - e.g - Enzo sold for $16m (almost triple the market price)

Stocks at an all time high, Gold at an all time high, Silver tripled in the last year, which has previsouly been a strong indicator metals have reached the top.

So it's either crypto or cars smile

And yet that white 250 gto bought by Dave Lee, went for 38 million. I thought they were over 50 million plus.

Wasn't it a charity auction? In which case I wouldn't put much stock in these prices setting a precedent.

Missing its original engine. Guys who buy cars at this level care more about those kind of things than they did previously. Also being RHD won’t have helped given all the big buyers these days tend to be US based.

I was there and saw the Bachman Ferrari Collection go across the block. The cars were all immaculate and very low mileage, from the tens of miles to few thousand. Most appeared to have all their Ferrari Classic documentation, matching luggage etc. I’m no Ferrari expert by a mile. A lot of the cars were “first” or “last” US market production etc for whatever that’s worth to someone. Some questionable colours like the two tone brown 612. I don’t think any had a reserve. There were several 308’s and the auctioneer tried to start the bidding at $500,000 before dropping to under a hundred k. Two F40’s went through in the same collection. One I think bid to around $10 million and another to around $5-6million. I’ve no idea why the difference.
I’ve started a thread in the car buying section and posted photos.

I was told by people who should know that it was not a charity auction.

That was my understanding; some of the proceeds were going to a foundation, but that did now allow buyers to claim tax deductions.
