Afternoon

I’m looking get into something special for summer. It won’t be a daily driver but it will be used - probably 3k per annum through a combination of weekend drives and commuting (with potential heavy traffic).

It doesn’t need to be the fastest or most advanced - for me the important thing is that is feels special - looks and noise are key. I do like mod cons/technology so nothing too old. My plan would be to own the car for a long time.

I’ve always been a Lamborghini fan - the Huracan is appealing. I don’t like the looks of the Performante so either an Evo or Tecnica might work. There isn’t much in it price wise so presumably Tecnica is the one to go for?

Other options I’ve thought about are an 812 (too big?), F8 or 296.

Is there anything I’m missing? Thoughts appreciated.

You may be a little dissapointed with the sound of an F8 if that is a primary consideration.

200k budget gives so many options, with so many differing opinions

I'd probably have a 458 and invest the change wisely (in other cars or motorcycles)

Nice dilemma to have...

Thanks for the comments, I d love an Aventador but they are probably too impractical.

The 458 in beautiful but I think a bit older than I’d like.

If you want something newer (I d still rather have the Pantera) there are Aventadors in budget. I d want a manual but this is nice

They arent totally as they have good lift and pretty good luggage space but yeah, pain for anything more than a 1 or 2k miles a year, which is why they tend to be 2nd or 3rd Supercars s in the garage

If it s to be more useable with max impact I d say 720 spider in a good colour, after that 488 /458 spider as a classier option but that debatable

I m not sure there is massive choice when you look supercars like this and noise is a concern as most of the other later options like the Cielo, artura etc sound really bad, not saying the 720 sounds great but compared to some of the later stuff..

Hurracan perf spider? Won’t lose a penny

I’d naturally lean towards a Huracan, albeit a coupe. The Perf isn’t as good looking as the Evo or Tecnica in my eyes. I prefer the cleaner lines.

This Evo looks great:

Though a newer (and improved?) Tecnica is not much more money:

488 GTB are a very usable supercar, and leaves change for a trackday toy also!

I guess thats subjective, i’m not really a Hurracan fan because the Av exists & its in my garage (v12 must and looks to die for)

but if i had to have a Hurracan then the perf sounds the best and would hold value best, looks wise i’m neither here nor there as 488, 458 looks better to me & im not a ferrari fan by any means, but subjective of course.

Is the Tecnica a better option than the Evo? Obvious difference being no 4wd

There was the Evo 4wd and Evo 2wd

Some argue the sterrato was the last huracan, I'd say the tecnica was

Which is better... Evo has softer ride, and most rated the 2wd over the 4wd... But ultimate grip obviously better with 4wd

Watch dragtimes on YouTube, he owned a tecnica and weighed it... It was the same as his sto, and it set the best drag strip time of all the huracan variants he has raced

Personally, I really liked the looks

Can you stretch to a Sterrato?

Seem to hold their value very well, very rare, and apparently quite a lot more practical then the regiular Huracan.

£200k. And ppl think a Huracan feels/is special.
Most of you have different ideas of feeling special to me. I haven’t driven one that doesn’t feel like a mid engined Golf to me.
OP, I can pretty much guarantee, that if you spend £200k or so on a Huracan then it wont be a keeper. You will want out sooner rather than later. And no, it doesn’t matter how technically good any of the variants are.
Yer dropping £200k. What actually is *it*, that you want to feel? Answer that and you answer your question. But I’ll tell you now, your medium to longer term answer isn’t a Huracan.

I’m glad you said that tbh and its the reasons i couldnt bring my self to buy one, just parking an AV alongside one was enough for me.

Special is a very hard thing to nail down when spending 200k its very personal & its your car history that gives perspective on this to a large degree, if youve had many 200k supercars, you’ll never repeat that first special one, the special feeling tends get diluted & give way to more practical, reliable, useable solutions that remain good looking, hence the evolution of supercars and their transition to hypercars and a lot more £ smile

Its an old old theme but (for many) the less you use the special car the longer it remains special and its for this reason (most of the time) many top end cars get used very little, we want them to remain special for use on those 3 or 4 occasions each year where they’re the perfect companion.

I think if its a 2nd or 3rd car for 5 or 6k miles a year, its shine is always going to be taken off more quickly but equally the car has to be chosen that fits this shorter and more intense ownership, maybe with background for that person considered? a Hurracan could suit? many people seem to get a lot out of them.. maybe its their first foray into junior supercar ownership, maybe they have other bigger supercars and they just need something to use and abuse? ive thought of one for that tbh as they’ll take punishment very well..

Pmsl. The V10 in the gallardo and huracan is what makes it special, truly one of the best engines ever made..... My golf r didn't have a V10 when I checked
