I have a 1999 360 with a F1 gear box, the car has done 27K miles, I have done 16K of these in the last year, I like the car a lot!!!

I had a new clutch fitted at around 16k miles and since then I have had a problem.
The problem is that in sports mode the clutch is very slow to re-engage on down shift(up to 4 seconds delay). This only happens when down shifting atanything lower than 4000rpm when the car is not under load (ie breaking for a corner).
The problem does not happen in normal mode.
It’s a very strange fault as the clutch works fine in normal mode and fine in sports mode at high RPM
This fault first appeared when I had the last clutch fitted and I have lived with it all year.
The car is now due for another clutch and I am looking for advice on fixing this problem.

Also I am looking at a Gearbox ECU upgrade, has anybody any experience with these, any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

I'm having the same problem. Replaced the clutch about 500 miles ago. If you blip the throttle after changing down it bites immediately.
Karl @ Verdi changed the clutch & advised that I update to the new ecu as he had adjusted as much as he could but said it would never get as good as the new ecu. As it was another £1k I've passed for the mom, but will get it done early next year if the annual service doesn't hurt too much in January !!

I've never noticed that problem with mine but the only thing I could suggest would to get a specialist with an SD2 to set the parameters correctly. Seems silly but I've been told that the clutch/F1 box can be set up wrong causing excesive wear and poor shifting. I had mine checked by Karl at Verdi's, highly reccomended and known to be able to set up the boxes really well.

I noticed your car is 1999. Mine is a 2001 but I've got the 2003 software loaded. It's supposed to make a massive difference. If you got the cash and want a gearbox ECU upgrade I'd consider getting the CS program installed.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info
Just a couple of questions.

Tezza, you say you are having the same problems, did Carl at Verdi manage to adjust the parameters to fix the problem after the clutch change or is it still a problem?
Also did you have the problem before you changed the clutch.
I had the original clutch and this was fine it was only after fitting a new one that the problem surfaced.

DJ Kam, Who changed the software, did you have this work carried out and if so did you notice any differences between the 2001 and 2003 software.

With regard to the CS upgrade I talked to Carl at Verdi and hey says that the shift can be "Very" aggressive even when you are just tooling around in town. I want to try to talk to someone who has had the CS or other upgrades carried out to get some idea of what the upgrade actually do and what they are like to live with. The big problem is that its expensive to do and expensive to put back if you don't like it.

I've driven both the pre and post 2003 software but in different cars. The 2003 software was already installed when I purchased my car. The main differences I noticed was a smother shift and I've been told less clutch wear but only time will tell.

The best way to check the CS software would be to drive a CS, worth chatting to a dealer and getting a test drive. From chatting to a few people I was told that normal mode on the CS software is similar to sport on the standard car, obviously sport is more aggressive.

Hope that helps.

So the life expectancy of a 360 F1 clutch is about 11K

Seems a bit low to me.

Yep,
Ferrari say that if you get 10K you are doing well.

When you say "Ferrari" I assume you are talking about the main dealer that is going to charge you handsomely to change said clutch and therefore is more than happy to have you back every 10K miles?

Still sounds low to me.

I took it back to Verdi's for adjustment after a couple of weeks. Karl spent a morning playing aound with his SD2, and it was better, but he said I would see a big improvement if I switched to the updated ECU.
I didn't have the problem before, but Karl said it's hit & miss with the old ECU.

I have just taken my 360 to Italia Autosport (John Pogson) for a new clutch, he has looked in to the problem as my car is a 1999 he recons that Ferrari are on modification number 3 for the clutch release baring.
He spoke to a couple of people and they all recon the clutch release baring is a problem with older 360's
So I am having a new (latest mod) release bearing fitted (about £300)
I should get the car back in a week or so (having other bits done, tubi F1 and challenge grill) and I will let you all know the results.

Just a follow up on this posting.

I finally got the car back with a new clutch and release bearing. Its now 100% better, it changes much quicker and so far never failed to engage gear.
So if any of you have a 360 that is not engaging gears properly (as reported in my earlier posting) this could be a quick and relatively low cost fix.

Also I didn’t get a Tubi I went for a hand made thing from John Pogson at Italia, What a fantastic bit of kit, and it doesn’t resonate at high speed. In fact its almost as quiet (in the car) as a standard unit on the motorway at 90 ish

Also can’t get hold of a challenge grill for love nor money (anybody got one for sale ?
