My car is in for a service and needs a new clutch master cylinder, the dealer (main) tells me that they don't have one and having checked in Italy there are none available there and the next step is a "global dealer search", does anyone know the timescales for this and what happens if this search comes back with nothing. I am preparing myself for a long wait but it would be nice if someone can give me an idea of just how long.

try eurospares - good chance they'll have one and it'll probably be way cheaper than the dealers...

Try one of those parts finders web sites. Its amazing how many have been totalled. I think a part like your after is likely to be ok in a relative minor accident and due to the high cost of replacement parts it doesn't take much to make it a write off.

Thank you for the replies, the car is now back and working better than ever! The 12k service was £495 (5 hrs) plus consumables(and VAT)which seems pretty good and a new clutch slave cylinder and fitting (turns out this was the faulty one)was just under £150 so all in all at well under £1k for the service and the clutch repair I am very pleased especially as it was a main dealer. On the assumption that no one can complain about a good reccomendation I would like to point out that the dealer concerned was Lancaster plc. in Colchester, great people and top class service.

Glenn and the boys at Colchester look after mine. It would have been highly uncharacteristic of them not to have resolved any issues quickly and efficiently. A big thumbs up for a Maserati dealer who cares about their customers

Sounds good. Master cylinder failure is much less common that slave cylinder so I was surprised to hear a diagnosis of the former rather than the latter initially.

Quite an easy job to replace SS, but a good price nonetheless (I've been charged more on a far lowlier car), and the service price doesn't sound bad either.

Disturbing though that it is difficult to source a master cylinder ...
