A couple of wheel nuts on the car are showing signs of rust. Where can I buy some replacement ones or how do I fix these ones? I have tried doing a search but couldn't find any info. Thanks for your help.

Check the Yellow pages for chrome platers in your area. They will replate them very cheaply. I was lucky to have a spare set of original alloys and they came with spare bolts, which was handy as replacement bolts are £20.00 each from the main dealers. If you can live without some bolts for about a week, ie not use the car, distribute the shiny ones among the four wheels and as long as you have 3 per wheel it is fine to leave standing.
When I had some showing signs of rust my local platers did them foc when they did the next chrome plate batch in the tanks, but I was lucky to have spares so I could continue to use the car.

Try eurospares

Or buy my wheels which come with bolts ! Hey you could even chrome the whole wheels! (don't you dare though...!) Still it makes the wheels look bargain at £400 inc bolts as this would be the price of 20 bolts alone!

Cheers

David A, any pics and details on the wheels? I couldn't see them in the classifieds. Thanks.

I have been suffering from rusty nuts as well (sorry couldn't resist that one).

Try the parts desk at Meridien - the chap there told me he could do some reconditioned ones at about half the price of the new ones.

Call James or Claudio at Eurospares. They do the long bolts for the standard 10 spoke wheels @ £12.50 and the short bolts for the later 15 spoke wheels (AC / 4200 pattern) @ £9.50

If only a few are starting to rust and you have the 15 spoke wheels, you could consider a set of locking wheel nuts (I use McGard) which will replace 1 per wheel

Spicy - you can see the wheels at www.icdphotos.com/album/708314

I'm after £400 including the bolts.

Nigelo,

Got the same problem, will give eurospares a call thank's.
On the locking wheel nut front, I did buy and fit a set but when the car went in for servicing(maranellos) I was told that the nuts weren't up to the job of handling the torque and were in fact dangerous. Have the locking nuts you use been given the okay by your dealer?

Hi Singh

As I said, I use McGard (in fact only McGard) which are IMHO are amongst the best. It's important to ensure that you have full thread depth penetration and that the cone under the bolt head fits fully and properly (ie uniformly around its complete circumference). Torquing up a new bolt to its correct setting and then removing to view the mark made on the cone will show if its seating properly or not - This applies to standard bolts as well btw. I can't comment on other makes of locking bolts as I don't use them but I'm sure there is some crap on the market.

Maranello MAY have been correct for your particular fitment but generally I am not interested in the opinions of individual Mechanics I don't know personally and less still Dealers other staff.

Thanks for that Nigello,

Having looked into this a bit today, McGard do seem to be the dogs danglies when it comes to locking bolts, apparently built to at least O.M. standard.
If possible could you give me the McGard product code/correct id for the locking wheel nut your using ie. 15 spoke 4200 wheel. Having called around they don't seem to know exactly which one I need, one guy asked me to take the bolt out and send pic's!

Cheers.

McGard's Part No. is 27000 (Bolt size = M14 x 1,5 thread pitch / 32mm length) This part number provides a 19 MM bolt head requiring a smaller than standard (22mm from memory)
socket wrench.

Judging by the state of the discs, wheels/tyres and hence wheel bolts are excess to this cars requirements anyway

And actually no you couldn't as the bolts for the 4200 wheels are different to the bolts for the 3200 wheels

You are wrong I'm afraid. When the 3200 is fitted with the 15 spoke wheels (ie 4200 wheels), 4200 bolts are used - My 3200 is so fitted.

ah ok, if you want to use the 3200 wheels on a 4200 you have to use the 3200 bolts then - at least I did!!

Good clarification though

I've contact a local chrome plater and they will chrome plate the bolts for £3 + vat, I've got a spare set for the front and for the rear.
Once mine are all done I may be able to do an exchange basis if anyone is interested.
They take about 2 weeks
