Hi! I'm thinking of buying a Maser 3200GT, but am finding "unbiased" info hard to come by!

There seems to be a feeling that the cars were improved considerably at the end of 2000, is this true? does anyone know what was done?

Also the values seem to be very variable for what seem like similar cars, has anyone bought / sold one recently and if so for how much?

Finally - anybody know of any known reliability issues with them?

Thanks!

When I get one I promise I'll post more intelligently!!

As far as I know there's only one 3200GT owner on this site- Alex, and there are various dribs & drabs of info if you go back and search earlier posts. I've very nearly succumbed myself on previous occasions, and the last time, earlier this year, I was advised to go for a 2000 or later MY by Maranello Sales. Later cars will have the warranty and balance of the fixed price servicing on them.
Sorry this isn't much help. When I was in a similar position and contemplating first time Ferrari ownership, the best resource was the guys on the service desks of the dealerships; they told me what to look for, things to avoid etc., and with the benefit of hindsight, gave me good advice without the sales spin. I'd recommend you do the same if you're serious.

Thanks for the introduction, Kevin.

I've owned one since June 2002. I was a bit worried whether I was making the right choice but minimised the risk by buying one that was just over a year old that had over 18 months of manufactuers warranty left and two subsidised (£600) services to go. Cars regisitered before October 2000 had two year warranties that have now expired.

So far I can not praise this car enough - look at my initial posting about my trip to Italy. It's just had a service which included some factory post production mods. Most noticable is improved throttle software which makes the manual easier to get right! This car is very fast, can cruise all day at 150+ mph and I'm amazed at the positive reaction from non-car people - with no negative/jealous reactions.

I'd be careful about buying one without a warranty as parts can be very expensive - although not expensive as Ferrari or Lamborghini.

I'd agree with Kevin - talk to the service guys. Everybody involved with Maserati's are very friendly and helpful. But in the end it's you're money. I have no regrets and may trade up next year.

Cheers

Alex
