Article in this weeks Autocar re. the 575M replacement, allegedly due out mid-2004.
Heavily disguised test mule photographed; broadly similar proportions to the 550/575, but longer wheelbase due to much smaller front overhang. Also looks curvier, rather less angular than 550/575.
Autocar claims longer wheelbase in order to improve handling, also lighter due to aluminium spaceframe and ali panels (as 360), reduced from 575 17730kg to 1650kg.
To be powered by a 5.5 version of the 6.0 V12 in the Enzo, to give 575bhp and at least 450lb/ft, to improve performance from the 575M and better low/mid-range.
Longer wheelbase also means engine can be moved back, so better weight distribution.
456 to follow with similar layout but even longer wheelbase to allow 2+2 seating.

Blimey, didn't realise what a porker the current 575 is

Seems Ferrari are developing both the 456 & 575 replacements at the same time, as Auto Express ran an article on the new 4-seater a couple of weeks ago.

Can't wait until they're both revealed.

The Maranellos replacement will be mid-engined.... in the proper sense of the word.. the engine will just be in front of the driver.
You're right Paul... I've been told to expect as much as 580hp from the V12 but in fact someone told me 1500kg.. Active aerodynamics will make it produce massive downforce (a la Enzo), exhaust may be well be routed along cars sills in order to clear room for flat undertray - there was going to be a side exhaust but these are illegal in EC countries.

Hey Manu,

I'm impressed you have all these details on the 575 replacement. How do you get your hands on such information, how reliable is it, and do you have any more recent info on the 360 replacement - the short term 'modificato' and the longer term replacement? Sorry for this tangent on this thread but I'm curious.

BTW, only just saw you are in Egham, I'll drop by on the next visit to Maranello's.

Hi Amar,

Being in the trade is handy....It's such a cliche but I know a couple of people in Maranello (they don't work for Ferrari though) as well as a few people who are VERY well connected and they SEE (literally) the new prototypes being tested...
More than anything - take ANYTHING predicted with a pinch of salt...I suppose only Montezemolo himself knows exactly what happens.

About the 360 though... I have been told something COMPLETELY different to what is generally being bandied about... All this stuff about a 420 Modena is wrong (famous last words), at least according to my sources.... don't quote me!

Michael Schumacher has won 3 titles with Ferrari and they want to honour him with a 360 "S" or GTO type version:
- Modest power increase ~ 420hp,
- Lightened with lots of interior trim chucked away,
- Very aggressive suspension/chassis setup
- Overall - somewhere between a Challenge car and existing road car
- Limited numbers - to be built alongside existing 360M. Hard top only.

The next car to be replaced is going to be the 456GT - then 575M and only THEN the 360... I've been told to expect some mid-term tweaking of the 360 - nothing serious and the 360 "S" to be built alongside it... but then what do I know?

Amar - you've got to come down to Egham actually - you can see Maranellos from our car park and the last time a few Ferraris got together we did a fabulous sport exhaust flypast.... Check the vid of Bernards car on the website - you can see Maranellos on the left!

Manu, thanks for the info. For what it's worth, looking at F's philosophy for previous modificatos and model changes, I was sceptical about a major rework of the 360 until 2004 at the earliest, so your info makes more sense.

BTW I finally got pics of the car onto the profile here; the first one is the unveiling at the factory, me feeling like a proud papa! I will definitely come down to Egham once the weekday schedule gets less manic, looking forward to it...

Ciao, Amar

Manu, where can I find the vid of Bernards car. Is it on the website in your profile. If so, I've downloaded the vids under "media," cheers.

Getrag - I've got loads more videos but I have to be careful about putting them up... Legal implications and what not. If you want some more then drop me a line.
In fact Rich, we still need to set up that server.....

Manu,
580bhp, (front) mid-engined and 1500kg would make one hell of a replacement for the 575!! Wouldn't mind seeing some of those vids.
Still holding out for a 550 in the New Year, but looks like the housing market is going to make it as difficult for me as possible!!!! - that's how I make a living. Is the Enzo still at Maranello - might be in the area tomorrow / Thurs.
