I have a 3200GT 2002. Quite frequently the engine shuts down into emergency mode 60MPH/3K Revs. Sometimes the engine light comes on (50% of time but not always.) Took to specialist workshop, no faults detected on engine diagnostic check. Couldn't fix! Any solutions? Its just that its a bit embarassing on inside lane overtaken by Renault Campus etc etc!

That doesn't sound like fun, wish I knew the answer but I can only suggest a chat with your local main dealer. Which specialist was it? and give wicked1 (giallo maserati) a call on 01732 363030 he seems to be well informed on these cars. If you end up needing expensive parts then web site david askew maserati have late 3200's for breaking. http://web.onetel.net.uk/~davidaskew/maserati/

Hope this is of some help!

Sounds similar to mine from a few months back.

At first I was told by the garage that it was the throttle potentiometer (£1000 - not covered by warranty) but after advice on here, the problem was diagnosed as an earthing problem caused by a wiring loom coming into contact with the steering column, or brake pedal or something that should be nowhere near a wiring loom.

I paid £53 for the repair.

The light comes on for many reasons and i would suggest getting the code read and get an idea as to why it is coming on. I would also suggest seeing if there is any link to when the light comes on. Any information is always helpful. You can ring for advice if you wish see number below, thanks by the way 3200GT for the advert

Same thing happened to me. It turned out to be a brake pedal switch (£10.90). Not an expert but am told this switch opens up the turbos for maximum engine braking. It is prone to failure and puts the car in limp mode. The other common cause I have heard of is the lambda sensors which i believe are more expensive.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll take these with me to the workshop; hopefully by quick elimination, the problem can be resolved snd avoid a day on the ramp!

Really appreciated and if there are any golden nuggests of info arising from the repairs, I'll post them.

If its the same switch i think it is - you'll know as you'll have no brake lights as well! (happend to the 3200 about 2 days after pickup!)

I have a 3200GT 2002 and up for its £43k service. Could anybody recommend a specialist in the St Albans, Hertfordshire area. I know of Bill McGrath but wondered whether there is an alternative?

A couple of points for you, Firstly it could be the throttle potentiometer just needs resetting and synchronising to the engine ecu. Secondly, it may sound cheeky but it is important, do you touch the throttle whilst still having the brake pedal pressed? Like left foot braking? I ask because this can bring on the engine light (stores a code of brake light switch). Finally, the throttle body may need just resetting. May i make thank 3200 Gt for his comments, we try and help if we can!!!!!
