Ferrari 275 Movie that is something else
Discussion
Just been sent this by a Ferrari fan of mine, had to share it
It's is a 35mb quicktime download, and plays for 8 mins or so. It was made in 1976. Its real. It was done with a gimble camera (anti-tilt) mounted to the front of a Ferrari 275. Apparently tops out at 160mph in places. Judge for yourself :- enjoy

Don't let the 35mb put you off, if on ADSL then this is fine. Its a streaming video and the host server is really quick. just clik the link, i've only seen this sort of stuff on the PS2

This gets reposted more regularly than Jordan appears in the tabloids!
It is a good vid to watch.
I am told that the sound is dubbed and that the car itself was actually a Mercedes and not a Ferrari.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
It is called "le rendezvouz", I think.
spot on

I think the car used is an Alpine A110 and the sound (P330?) was dubbed. There's no way the cars gears match the speed. A 275 does over 100 mph easily in 3rd . . . the revs therefor don't match the speed . . . all is very clear in the small streets towards the top at Sacre Coeur. Some nice footage though!

Sorry to be arse-e but if you really want to get it right its: "C'etait un rendezvous."
The film was made by Claude Lelouche who had spent a lot of money on the special camera which made the film possible.
Moonie
(Have no accents on this keyboard before someone comments!)
"Lelouch used a new technology of the time, a gyro stabilized camera mount, in order to mount the camera on the car. The problem with this is that the technology of the time only allowed for a ten minute film with this mount. Lelouch told his driver to rush because of this time limit, and the video itself is only about nine minutes. In our velocity graph, we used all footage of the car when it was in motion."

He used a 450 SEL 6.9. Great Q car. Owned one a few years back. One of Mercedes master pieces. Dry sumped engine. The very last 1980 model had abs brakes, the first for a production car. Mine was 1977. They used one as a chase car in the film Ronin. It was the preffered weapon of choice for our late and great James Hunt. On his european jaunts to F1 meetings he would occasionally destroy it. He'd phone my mate Serge for a replacement. Colour inmaterial but had to have leather interior. When he fell on hard times some where there is a picture of his dark blue 6.9 on chocks with the wheels off to avoid paying road tax. Spirit Level clip, love to watch this.

Here is a picture of the Merc rigged up with the camera...
