Dear all,
First, congratulations for the quality level of this board, I recognize some names (hello Luigi and Manu!)
I have a couple a questions concerning the Tubi exhaust that a lot of you seem to have.
That the souns is great is not the issue.
I currently own a 2002 996 C4 cab with sport exhaust, great noise although nothing like Ferraris!
My next car is most probably a 360 Modena and I think it sounds great with stock exhaust although fantastic with Tubi.
Here are my questions:
Can the exhaust be disconnected?
Like the one I have on my Carrera. A dash mounted button controls a flapper valve which redirects the exhaust through a proper silencer.
The reason I ask is because I enjoy driving but also cruising a lot for long travels (I have done 27000 km in less than 10 months with the 911!!!)
And I don't like a loud environment during cruising(nor does my girlfriend and most of you I suppose) all the time.
I read a thread from 456GT (Kevin?) stating that cruising was ok with the Tubi, I just want to make sure what you mean by ok?
I know, it sounds like I want the best of both worlds, and yes, that's true, that would be nice.
See, that's what's great about the 360 stock exhaust (quiet under 2700 rpms and then flapper valve for a great noise above that rpm).
Does the Tubi behave in the same way?
Sorry about the long thread, I just want to make sure I get it right, appart from that, the car is just amazing!!!
Basically, in a few words, if the Tubi is not disconnectable, can you cruise around in it faily quietly (music, chat with passenger, etc.)?
Many thanks for your time,
Fanch.

Fanch,
you can cruise with a Tubi, I have been down Southend Seafront cruising every weekend since mine was installed :-). Oh you didnt mean that sort of cruising. Well, in my spider at 160 a few weeks back, Tubi in full flow, stereo on and talking to my better half it was fine. Manu will be able to give a more detailed response.

Thanks for the info Rich.
So it's not 1000 db all the time inside the car then, this is good news,
Fanch.

Is there any road noise restriction on the UK by law?
See, there is in France and they used to be pretty flexible about it but now for some reason they are becoming very annal concerning exhaust noises.
A friend of mine just got a huge fine and points of his driving license because his Ducati 996 with Terminioni Carbon Exhaust was just ridiculously above the EU noise level.
Can even be a problem on race tracks, some tracks in France accept only a certain level of noise from cars because of neighbouring towns (do you have that in the UK as well?)
I suspect without much doubt that the Tubi is above EU maximum db allowed.
Anyone has had problems with that issue yet?
Fanch.

Yip its a huge problem here, some of the UKs oldest and best tracks becoming stiffled with daft noise regulations of commonly under 98db- Bedford autodrome recently had an 85db limit as it was a rare weekend trckday!!! Now a tubi 355 will be around 101db or more (Manu may know more on this) and even superlightr's new 996 porker with a standard exhaust was over the 95db limit at Goodwood. So you can see what a nightmere that can be.

Thankfully most some tracks do hold noisey days where the limit is 105db but there are very very few places in the UK where you can run an unsilenced race car on a track day. Its even a problem now at the Nurburg ring in Germany with bikes with race exhausts (usually under 105db anyway) being turned away despite having ridden from the UK for a weekends fun!!

Fanch! Good to see you here mate!
You can email me offline about this but as with any other 360 owner you're welcome to try a Tubi for free and if you don't like it, give it back and you won't have to pay a penny. (NO one has ever NOT LOVED it!)

BTW - About the Terminionis on V-twin Ducatis - I've heard them and they are RIDICULOUSLY loud - some of them get to beyond 120dB...pretty much everything we do on ANY car will NEVER get you to that noise level.

I think EC noise regs limit new cars to 74dB at certain rpms.... yes - 74dB I can shout louder. We've had a debate about this before actually but we've seen plenty of Tubis at UK tracks before and even the police don't take too much interest...how antisocial it is depends on the note I suppose - 95dB of Tubi is wonderful but 95dB of DRONING bass is appalling..

Hey Fanch,

What a surprise man !!! You're also plugged here. Amazing site.

On the Tubi exhaust that's discussion we had for a long time; remember this trial in Glendalough with the 355 a week ago, man, that was cool, what a thrust.

I heard there are a couple of new prototypes and pre-series coming for next year ?
